[Question] How to keep apps after upgrade?
I have a jailbroken 3G 2.1 iphone with some apps installed and utils from cydia.
Is there a way to update to 2.2 without restoring and so re-install every utils from cydia ? Some of themm I would like to keep at such version.
Thank's in advance.
Not really sorry. Updating the phone will kill jb, and mess the filesystem a bit.
Get a piece of paper write down all your apps then reinstall after updating. There is a app save app, but i don't use it.
If installing ipa apps, its easy because you just resync, but you will lose save data.
To update properley, Dfu restore to 2.2, Use quickpwn to activate and add cydia, then sync contact and stuff.
I wouldn't use a backup from an old firmware. Just set up the phone as new.
2.2 is way worth it, its a full on update fixing heaps of 2.1 issues.
You have to restore, so you'll lose the apps initially, but you can use this procedure to make the process much faster: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50173 or http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35360

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.
Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
* on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
* on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).
