Default Putting music on iphone without itunes

Is there a way to put music on my phone without using itunes? With the updates and all that I'm afraid to use itunes, not to mention when I plug the phone in, itunes pulls up a screen that gives 2 options, neither of which im comfortable clicking continue, after telling me a phone has previously been synced--they are a) set up as new phone and b) restore from previous version of "xxx 's phone"

As of late I also consider moving away from iTunes...so I'd like to know if there's an alternative way to sync with the iPhone, too.

    Default RE: iTunes replacement

This definitely becomes a more compelling issue for those who are still at 1.0.2 firmware and don't want to 'take any chances'. If the 1.1.1 unlock happens in the near future I'd bet this issue will be more back-burner... but IF the 1.1.1 security keeps the dev team out for an extended period of time I would expect this to have a lot more resources dedicated towards it. I would like to see this no matter what firmware we're at as competition is always useful.

I cant wait to replace iTunes forever, since I dont buy music and Im not planning to update to any new FW..replacing iTunes is a must !!!

I had my iPhone corrupted once when I connected it to iTunes and I had to fully restore it afterwards and re install everything I had on it, not to mention re upload all of my music and videos...

I am actually working on this type of software right now. I have started development of it and hope to be able to kick it out to the community shortly. Basically it will replace itunes entirely but with a MUCH more intuitive interface and the ability to edit your bookmark lists directly in it. I could use some help on the project im coding it in vb.net 2005 and it will be for windows os for now. I could use a QA person and more developers. Anyone interested PM me.

Can you make it to support wifi ? at least for managing music. I'm tired of stressing the battery by connecting every now and then to upload this one song.

what will happen if i click either of the two options? again the options itunes presents me with are...

    a) set up as new phone

    b) restore from backup

the phone is fully functional and unlocked--i have not put any music or anything on the phone since i got it but id like to put music on it now and those are what my options are

Ephpod doesnt even recognize the iphone when i plug it in which is a damn shame

How did you plan on editing the itunes.db file?
To my knowledge the format isn't known yet..

There are a ton of solutions available to this issue, provided you use linux. All you need to do is mount up the phone with sshfs, and you can manage songs over wifi with programs like amarok, exaile, or gtkpod. Far better solution than what iTunes provides, information on exactly how to do it is on the wiki under linux:talk.
