I think it would be great to have a DAAP server running on the iPhone. That way, whenever I arrive at home or work with the phone, it automatically shows up in iTunes/Rhythmbox and can stream music wirelessly. I wonder how hard it would be to port mt-daap to the iPhone. Does anyone have a clue?
Might want to ask the same qn here: http://forums.fireflymediaserver.org
There's versions for many platforms there including the appletv, and the guy who develops it is pretty active.
I'm interested in this also... I've had some luck building daapd for Linux in the past, but it had a lot of squirrely requirements.
I'd actually like to see the opposite, too... an app that can see an iTunes share and play music from it. If you could get both working it would be possible to play music from other people's iPhones over WiFi. ;)
I've been successful at getting revision 1586 of Firefly Media Server (mt-daapd) running on the iPhone. One problem is that after my auto key lock kicks in, the phone drops wi-fi and switches to edge. I don't know if this is the same for all phones, or has something to do with my wireless network.
I'll try and get it packaged up. I'd like to have a nice configuration front end for it running on the iPhone as well (for now there's the config file and web interface).
you guys have anything to share about this?? i am looking forward to control my itunes library from the iphone...
please share what you have!
