Garf 0.17 up on Source Forge
Okay, Garf 0.17 is now up on the Garf Source Forge project page. This version is perhaps more battery friendly. I noticed that after running version 0.15, that a thread on MediaServer would linger for a while after the program exits, instead of disposing of after 0.5 seconds. (Perhaps this is a 1.1.1 bug...not sure.) So I went and changed the Garf code so the thread doesn't linger. As to whether the original behavior had a significant effect on the battery, I have no idea. But if it did, this new version should fix things.
The new version also prevents Garf from continuing to run while the phone is in standby mode, should you switch the phone off while running the game.
The Installer repository for Garf, Mod-my-ifone, is apparently down due to a "rather large disaster (real world) in the middle of a server move". But before it returns, it would be nice if any of you who have seen shorter battery times after this program would test out the new version. This will help determine if another Installer repository release is warranted.
For those stuck with version 0.15 who want to test this, you can always run a program like Piano (iApp-a-day) or NESApp right after running Garf, which will have the same effect as the having the new version.
