You should have a directory under /private/var/mobile/Media/ that has a couple files with the .ithmb extension. These files have the jpeg and tiff versions of all the pictures in your gallery. You need to copy these files off the phone and then find a program that can pull the pictures out of the ithmb file. I use a program called File Juicer. It will extract the contents of ithmb files.
    HI

    I have 4 .ithmb Files in /private/var/mobile/Media/Photos/Thumbs
In /private/var/mobile/Media/Photos/ there is only a File called Photo Database.
In the Folder DCIM i only have a Folder called .MISC (is light grey) and a Folder 100Apple and both Folders are empty.

Are the .ithmb are the right ones you mean?

File Juicer is sadly only for Mac :-(

Just an idea, you might be able to copy it back and give it 777 after you restore your iphone. After that, you can transfer it to your pc as normal when you have a working firmware.

    Default Yes

Yes you should have 4 ithmb files. All will be different size. each ithmb file has the same pictures in it just different sizes etc..... I assume you want the best picture quality and not the thumbnails so all you need is the largest one.

As for doing it on windows, I can't help you there. This might be of some help though.

Ok, i see this is very difficult.
But now i know, the Picturea are in the ithmb Files. Thanks for that Info.

I have noticed, i can upload Photos with WinSCP to the Film Folder and it will shown on the Iphone, but as "Thumbnail" it shows a white Quadrilateral.
It is possible to config, that iphone use a custom Image for all Thumbnails for the Photos i upload?

Standard is, one Picture, and one Thumb. (.JPG - .THB)
The Thumbnail will appear in the Gallery.
So, it is possible to config, that iphone use a custom Image (e.g. apple logo), as Thumbnail for all Pictures i upload in to the Film Folder?
So i dont need to creat a Thumbnail from any picture any time.

I hope you understand what i mean, i am at end with my English :-)

    Thanks for helping so far.

    Post Another method

    Hello,
I have found another method to retrieve photos from your Iphone and to store them in JPEG format under Windows.

Basically, you need to use iPhoneBrowser from Windows to connect and browse your Iphone folders & files.
Go to the folder /private/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE where your JPEG should be located. You see the JPEG files on the right panel.
NOTE: A subfolder .MISC should contain the corresponding tumbnails.
On the left panel (folders tree), right-click on the 100APPLE folder and select 'Backup Folder'. This will create a specific backup folders with all your JPEG files.
This backup folder can be found under C:\Documents and Settings\%YOURUSER%\Local Settings\Application Data\Cranium\iPhoneBrowser.
It should have a name like BACKUPS.20090725.183440 (with date/time of the backup). As you will see, it contains the full path like on your Iphone:
    \private\var\mobile\Media\DCIM\100APPLE.
Therein you can retrieve your JPEG files

Hope this can help the community
