thats odd, i thought it did because i left it on for a day to see what happens and my battery went low but then again i probably had something running in the background that i forgot about:p

i think a lot of us guys had this debate awhile back about the sdk and and how limted it would be thus limiting the devs and the commuinty as a whole seeing as how unlocking scripts and most emulators wont be allowed thr the sdk, so yea i will def keep jailbreaking even after 2.0 i might not be unlocked but i damn sure do love my emulators and stuff

Yes, it's always off. Only when an SSH connection is made to the phone it gets activated.

If you have SysInfo installed, you can verify that it's off. Or in Terminal, you can type top and verify that the SSH processes aren't running. So it really can't drain your battery.

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

Actually, it doesnīt drain battery if itīs not connected. Since itīs a server side, it just put a listening socket on port 22, and waits for someone to connect. It doesnīt keep checking everytime something or uses the wireless to transmit if no connection is made.
Of course, when connected, this SSH proctocol is very heavy and keep sending constant packets through the wireless network, forcing the wifi transceiver to transmit many network packets, and of course consuming battery.
