I believe the point of only enabling the beta for donors would be that the emulator still not in a shape that anyone can apreciate. If you spend two hours finding a bios and uploading stuff to your iPhone only to find the performance is miserable you're not likely to try the app again.

If you are, however, motivated enough to donate to the development you have probably researched the case enough to know what result you'd get from doing early beta-testing.

If this app isn't free when out of early beta you guys can complain about selling.

I have no problem with this, using the developers GBA emulator, I have been impressed how it has gone from (0.09 I think it was) a barely playable state to 1.0 which runs fairly decently.

I suppose that's one way of looking at it. Here's another way:

A lot of us on these forums are rabid followers of app development on the Touch/Iphone. Naturally, this means we're very anxious to check out any new app that's announced - sometimes installing a beta or alpha to see what's on the developer's stove, and then uninstalling it a moment later. We may not even be interested in the final release - just interested in seeing what people are doing on the Iphone platform. That's what makes these forums fun for many of us.

As one of these folks, it rubs me the wrong way that someone would try to compel me to donate by announcing their app, showing a teaser screenshot, and then saying I can't even take a peak at their still mostly unusable app until I open my wallet.

Thing is, I DO donate. Frequently. I have no problem with that. If it's something that's installed on my Touch and I use or play it often, I've donated. If psx4all.app gets to the point where it's something I want on my Touch then I will donate (though because of ROM size, its unlikely I will be wanting the end product unless the games run flawlessly).

So to satisfy my curiosity in the meantime, I Googled it, found the password, checked out psx4all and then uninstalled it.

(DO NOT ask me for the password. DO NOT ask me to post the password.)

Most of the software for the iphone is proof of concept, which means its not 100% functional. I have no problem "Donating" for a product that WORKS!

Then what do you think of iSolitaire Smsd, email notifier to name a few which are fully functional betas with no forced donations?

Edit: Sorry just read your post again... I'm in a middle of a field somewhere. Sorry again

first of all sorry for my english.
    ----------------------------------------------------
is that app more useful than SMSD ?

i bet that all people which love to mod their iphone have smsd app in their iphone
but not the GBA emulator then why PSX4all + money to pay ?

SMSd is most useful app for free thanks for amrut.joshi who make this app and spread to use wordwide.

and thanks for the GBA emulator too.. and as far as i know that psx4all owners have rights to sell/ take donate whatever and this is not illegal.

i am just saying this because if the Itone ringtone maker owners can make money from their app then why not psx4all owners?

correct me if i am wrong.

The quick answer to that is that the psx4all source code (which is used but not written by zodttd for psx4iphone) probably is bound by a license saying it's free for anyone to use in their product as long as the end result is free.

The real question is whether selling a "Beta Testing service" for an application is the same thing as selling the application. Since zodttd introduced a 2$ a week plan for his beta testers I'm beginning to think it's rather sketchy. The psx4all source is, after all, a part of the "Beta Tester service". Might be time for zodttd to double check that license.
