[MobileSafari] Getting it to *run* .exe files (not download)
I am running a jailbreaked and unlocked iPhone on 1.1.1 (04.01.13_G) and I've been trying to get my company webmail running on my iPhone through MobileSafari.
Through Term-vt1100 I manage to SSH to our server and portforward localhost sucessfully. This enables me to log on to our system from MobileSafari.
However, I haven't been able to get pass the next obstacle. Our mail system is built like:
I assume that our system calls an exe file that processes data according to the attached parameters. In Firefox, Safari, IE this works smoothly on a PC or Mac (when I am logged in, otherwise it incorrectly tries to download the .exe file). But when using the iPhone I get an error message from MobileSafari, since it does not support .exe files.
Is there anyway to "disable" that .exe block and just have the browser treat it as a regular html file? It's just a guess, but I assume since MobileSafari is a port of Safari, it should be able to handle this without worries, and that that .exe block is just in place since the iPhone can't execute those files, and as a safeguard for malicious file downloading.
Any help is appreciated. Searching the forums, this thread covers .exe downloading, but that won't help me either.
Hmm...good question. I imagine this could be handled by doing a plugin...I currently don't know how to do one, but other people supposedly do, and if they would share their knowledge publicly, I perhaps could throw something together. Perhaps one could make a plugin for exe filetypes that links back to MobileSafari itself and shows it as an HTML...
Or perhaps there is a configuration list on the iPhone that contains the cgi filetypes that output HTML...
Perhaps a good search would be "Setting MobileSafari MIME types"
If not, maybe somebody has a workaround that will allow you to view a HTML which somehow accesses the exe-created page for you.
just to make sure, you dont have any plugins right? Just a possible explanation would be you have some plugin that is trying to download the content.... You wouldnt actually be able to downloed the EXE file, as your server isnt passing that on to the browser, but for some reason safari isnt respecting the mime type your server is feeding...
Thanks for your replies!
No, I don't.
