I've had this same problem on AT&T (USA) with my 1.02 firmware phone (never tried 1.1.1). It showed a voicemail was waiting but when I'd call my voicemail over a period of a week I never had any voicemails. In the process of "re-virginizing" the phone I restored the 1.02 firmware and haven't had the problem since.

just turn your phone off then back on and the dot goes away.

there must be a check sequence. however I noticed that my voice mail is acting funny. even though I delete the messages the are being saved. very annoying.

Turning on and off does nothing.

Yeah, turning on and off did not help my situation either.

Anyone else have this problem? How do we remove it?

    Thanks!
    Solution:

    - Install OpenSSH and log in to your phone
    - rm /var/root/Library/Voicemail/*

Then reboot your phone... This will delete all your voicemails on your phone!

I just seen the red dot once at one of the phones that I had unlocked but, the dot goes away it self after a few reboots (with the new SIM from Mx Telcel GSM inserted), so... anyone knows if Telcel sends those "no messages" notifications?

    Cheers!

The problem was that when I first unlocked my iPhone, I didn't even have voicemail service, and still got the red dot indicating that there was new voicemail. Of course, with no voicemail box to actually call into, I had no way of clearing it.

I added voicemail to my line, and after leaving a message for myself and then erasing it, the dot went away and stayed away until I either received yet-another voicemail message, or returned from an extended period of no coverage.

Thus far, I have found no other way to remove it after a reboot other than leaving myself a message and then erasing it (or waiting until somebody else leaves me a message). It's particularly annoying, since it comes back every time the phone is out of service (which in Toronto with the TTC happens fairly often for me during the day).

Time to go spend some time digging around at the shell prompt, I suppose....
Funny. I was on the GO train from Union when this happened!! However, all the suggestions did not work. I put the SIM card into my old RAZR and have the voicemail indicator on still there too. It's a problem with Rogers and not my iPhone. They've had to escalate it to a "higher power" (I didn't know God worked at Rogers...I mean, there's still no iPhone there yet!)

    Gang,

All these problems are very likely to be a STUCK MMS message!

iPhone can't handle it so the notification just stays there forever!

    Any help?

Im on Fido in canada and I get the dot too. I tried reboots, calling voicemail, deleteing my own voicemail etc, no luck.

I see its been a while since anyone posted here so wondered if anyone found good solutions without having to delete the dot file.

    Thanks.
