Default [MobileMail] Deleting old emails ?

I have some questions about deleting old mail in the mail application.

    1) Is there a way to delete ALL the mail from an inbox at once?

    2) Is there a way to delete the trash so the space is freed and the old mail no longer readable?

    3) What limits does the system place on keeping trash to stop it from growing ever larger? Does the setting for number of messages to retain effect the trash, or does that just move them to the trash when there are that many? (I haven't received enough mail on the iphone to know yet).

    4) I am on firmware 1.1.1. Does the answer to any of these questions change with a more recent firmware?

    Thanks in advance.

Also, I have it set to check my mail manually, but it still seems to do it sometimes when I don't explicitly request. How do I really make it manual? It definitely happens if I view the contents of an inbox and sometimes seems to have already happened on another inbox when I switch to a second, as I see the updated time change when I didn't request it to check mail. Any answers on my other questions above?

    Thanks

Unfortunately, that's just how the mail application works.

Manual Check means it'll check when you open the app. Automatic will do it when Mail.app isn't opened.

All inboxes are checked when the app is opened and also with the automatic check.

I hear this will be improved in firmware 2.0 (for both 2G and 3G iphones). Now this is only a matter of waiting for the release and the unlocking solution for the new firmware.
