Maxthon is based off MS's Internet Explorer for Windows engine.
Since the source code for the engine isn't available, and I doubt Microsoft is going to port it, it ain't happening.

Even if it happens, i don't think many people will use a IE based browser on iPhone-iTouch.

I'm pretty sure FireFox is on the top of the wish list.

To be honest I don't think Firefox would be a hit on iPhone. I say this because I've used their Pocket PC port (Minimo) and it's really not that good. I'd be more interested if Opera came out with something.

    iPhone (OTB 1.1.1 / Currently 3.1)
    Unlock, activation, jailbreak: PwnageTool 3.1

Don't forget the iPhone-iTouch runs OS X which is Very similar to Mac OS X.
You can't tell the same for Windows Mobile.

If we have a chance to see FireFox ported, it will push Apple to make Safari better and better.

I think it will not be the only one, just think about the upcoming SDK.

I'll back TwistyValhalla on this one. The embedded version of Mozilla (MiniMo) is too bloated and slow on a PocketPC I have to the point where loading gmail's front page takes me 3 minutes.

Has it occurred to you that desktop Firefox takes up over 64 megs of RAM just to start up with no window? From what I heard, that's like half of the memory of an iPhone. Then you have to save some off for the OS....etc.

Sure it can be done. But those that know how will agree that doing so has about as much point as doing a N64 emulator on iPhone. It can be done, it'll just be almost completely useless except for bragging rights because it'll be so slow.

I think you didn't get my point

Safari on Mac and Safari on OS X 1.0 are pretty much the same (webkit).
But you can clearly see that Safari for iphone is far much lighter than its Mac version (except no java and flash support, but it has nothing to do with it).

Even though i like Safari, I think Firefox can be the same if they just make it lighter enough.

Competition is good for "us", the customers.

I think you missed my point as well. There has been a project (MiniMo) to make a light browser using the same rendering engine as FireFox (Gecko). It's still bloated and slow. Porting to iPhone isn't going to help. What would help is other people working on getting MiniMo better optimized, something that has little to do with iPhone. After that, then there's a possibility somebody will put it on iPhone.

As of right now, porting to iPhone is a useless effort for any Gecko-based browser because I'm sure even you won't use it once you see it.
