Default [Maps] custom MapTiles caches [PC app, iPhone script]

    What this does:
Allows the creation (on a PC) and loading (on an iPhone) of a custom MapTiles cache for Maps.app on jailbroken iPhones

    Screenshot: http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/iphone_topo.jpg

    1. Get the map on a PC

GMDL: http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html (now firmware 2.2 compatible) site: http://gmdl.googlecode.com/
    video: http://www.in7ane.com/iphone/create_map.mov

note: Maps.app map layer only zooms in down to 1 so uncheck 1x in GMDL, or put the map in the satellite or hybrid layers which go down to -3.

    2. Copy the map to your iPhone

Copy the map directory to /var/mobile/Media/Maps on (create Maps with a capital M)
    video: http://www.in7ane.com/iphone/copy_map.mov

    3. Load the map on the iPhone

Click the map name, then Link, wait, and open Maps.app

Install OfflineMaps from Cydia, site: http://iphoneofflinemap.googlecode.com/

    ---

    Old (firmware 2.1 and lower):

    sample maps: http://www.in7ane.com/iphone/maps/

application by Jason Lin: Add http://www.in7ane.com/iphone.xml as a source in Installer then install iLM from the Map Apps category
    (or PXL from: http://jasonkit.googlecode.com/)

    Talking

    This is just amazing!

I also had a PSP and was wondering and application, or in this case a script, to see the Maps on my IPhone offline.

Hopefully soon somebody could make and app to launch from summerboard instead of commad line.

    Many thanks for the script.

New lm.sh script that now links instead of copying the tile database (so the load on the iPhone is significantly faster), thanks to aderen from weiphone.com

    http://www.in7ane.com/iphone/lm.sh

    ./lm.sh map_name
links the database and copies the location settings (so the map opens up from the default location on future ./lm.sh loads)

    ./lm.sh map_name c
copies the database and the location settings (what the old script was doing)

    ./lm.sh map_name l
links the database and the location settings (so the last location on the map is preserved - careful, Maps.app seems to sometimes lose tiles in the database and decide to redownload if you start it outside of the tiled area)

    Note:
You needs BSD subsystem installed as well as vt100 I think (assumed that everyone did from the unlock).
Combining multiple areas in one tile database will likely run into the lost tile problem described above, so you would still have to load new location settings to get to the tiled area.

The lm.sh shell script has been replaced by a nice GUI app to select the maps by demonlj from weiphone.com

    screenshot: http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/iLM.jpg

mirror (PXL inside the rar): see the first post above (let me know if you don't want me to mirror it and I will remove the file)

    ---

    20080123 update

demonlj updated the iPhone GUI iLM app to 0.2 (see the link in the first post for the PXL)
    - copying rather than linking is now an option

gmdl has been updated (same download link, see above) to substantially speed up the ->iPhone export part (425MB, resulting, map now takes 15 minutes instead of 45; 4.3GB takes 3 hours)
    - the submits are now all in one transaction

    more sample maps in: http://www.in7ane.com/iphone/maps/

    ---

    20080129 update

easier guide, videos for every stage - see edited first post

Hi, I tried to install the iLM application (put iLM.app manually into ./Applications) and it appears on my springboard. Additionally I put map into .../Maps/MyMap/...
However when I start iLM just the stratup screen shows up and the application quits after a few seconds. What could I possibly have done wrong ? Do I need any other application or script installed ? ...running 1.1.2 firmware

    thx

Just want to say MANY THANKS to in7ane, don't stop. The latest version of GMDL is awesome, and it runs much faster. I've used MapCruncher->GMDL->iPhone toolchain, and now I have my scanned topo maps together with satellite imagery on iPhone, and it works.

Did you set "eXecute" attribute on the iLM file inside iLM.app folder? If you manually copied the folder, you must set it.
    chmod +x /Applications/iLM.app/iLM

Wow this is what I have been waiting for. Very useful to see maps of downtowns in offline mode.

Is it possible to do routing with the offline maps?

TwistyValhalla: Maps.app still needs to query Google's servers to do the routing, so it is not fully offline, however you can do routing when a custom map is loaded, for example: http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/iphone_routing.jpg

I think the routing data is stored locally after being queried for the first time, so it should be possible to store routes in advance and load them up while being fully offline (the routing and the pins apparently changed in 1.1.3 so I will wait until that is stable and take a look at how to do it then).
