This is a GREAT program. One of the few apps i really needed to fully replace my Treo. I'm glad you're still updating as it does need some more fixes. I don't have time to read 7 pages here, so here's my input in order of priority

    1. The password list is in the order you add them in NOT alpahbetically. Makes finding passwords MUCH more difficult.

    2. Needs a way to export all data to backup. Even if it were a simple text into an email that you can email your self. Then you could save the data on your computer. In case you need to re-install the program or your firmware, this is a must so you not only save passwords but hopefully can import them back into the program later to avoid having to retype on the iPhone all your info.

    3. I cant see the last password. It is still possible but tricky to access, but seems like an easy fix to be more convienient.

THANKS so much for you efforts. Its a wonderful program!

Is there any way to decrypt/encrypt the whole Lockbox_v1.dat file ?

Looked briefly at the source (LockBoxStorage.m) and tried the std. linux openssl stuff, but couldn't figure it out/get it to work. Maybe it's something with Mac character encoding ?

I'ld really like to be able to import/export it to a .csv file (or alike), just need to firgure out how to encode/decode the file.

That is what I did, for the exact same reason, with the same results. First, the AES128 does not match 100% with cygwin's openssl decrypt. Please, I think we need to know the 'salt'. I assume the password is the one we enter....

I really dont feel like typing all my info in the iphone using it's keyboard.

Yes, it's the same AES128 from the same library, but you're probably not giving it the right parameters. If you're using Objective C, you just need to use LockboxStorage and SSCrypto while replacing the static filename with the path to where your file is, and then have it save/output to another file. Either way, you can look in SSCrypto.m at - (NSData *)encryptNSString *)cipherName - which is basically all C with a few objc member accesses, which you can easily replace and incorporate to your stdio app on linux/windows. the SSCrypto key is just your password, yes. EVP_BytesToKey properly hashes it up, and also there (SSCrypto.m line 550) is the salt - EVP_md5().

When you do decrypt it, it's using a binary format from NSKeyedArchiver, so you have to convert it from that still, but you can.

I know, i know it's very important - I haven't spent as much time on Lockbox as I've wanted the past few weeks. This next release is very close to being done, however.

    Version 0.5 Released

I highly recommend installing the BSD Subsystem before upgrading or installing - if you do, you will have Lockbox's password authentication background become the same as your iPhone's background. It is the automated process I described here.

    Features

    * Tags - apply multiple tags to items, and filter view items by multiple tags
    * Option to hide secret items in the list view
    * Option to edit items upon selection (ie tap the item anywhere)
    * Change password
    * Lockbox locks when iPhone locks

    Bug Fixes

    * Scrolling bug where the last item wouldn't display properly

I sent an email to Ste to update my entry in Installer.app, so keep an eye out for that method. Eager people can download the .pxl and install it that way. a PXL is just a .zip with an extra .plist in it, so you can scp it over to your phone too.

For the next release, I'll be doing some smaller fixes, like a bigger note field, sorting the list items, and various bugs/'todo's i have lingering around. After that, it's on to importing from Desktop apps.

Tell me if you see any bugs, here or filing an issue on my Google Code page.

Thanks! Waiting for it to appear in Installer.app, just updated my iPhone to 1.1.1., will start looking into decryption myself as well after that!

I created my own repository for Lockbox releases for those of you who want 0.5 now - hopefully Ste should add it soon. In Installer, add this to the sources:

    http://iphonelockbox.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/repo.xml

You'll see 0.5 there. There is a bug where Installer will mark the 0.3 version in Ste's repository as an upgrade to the 0.5 one. I think you can remove the repository after install, and you should be fine.

On your Google Code site, could you put in the download page also a normal zipped Lockbox.app version (in order to install directly with an SFTP program)?

A .pxl is just a zip file actually, with an extra .plist file that you can ignore, so go nuts.
