Hey guys,

I was thinking of running an IMAP server locally on the iPhone and pointing the MobileMail.app to use 'localhost' for the mail server. I would then write some sort of script that logs into my real mail server and uses IMAP IDLE to be notified of new mail. Once notified, the script would than launch 'fetchmail' or equiv to actuall retrieve the new mail. Mail would get stored in a local drop file that's read by the IMAP server...

This would in theory give me push email capabilities... My reason for doing this is because some countries don't have unlimited data plans and even checking mail every few minutes generates data usage.

Thoughts?? This should work in theory, providing the iPhone doesn't mind daemons running in the background....
