Default iPhone as a Second Screen

The idea is to use the iPhone as a second screen to your laptop.

Yes, VNSea allows you to clone your computer's interface onto the iPhone. This is different.

Instead, the iPhone would act as a second touchscreen to your normal computer. Under XP, it would show up in the display settings and give you the option of extending your desktop over to it. You would be able to place its relative position relative to your main screen - though of course since the iPhone is inherently mobile it's not so critical.

The power of it would be to view files and parts of applications you're working on directly from the iPhone. You could be writing a paper in one window, then spawn a second window scrolled to a different position. You could slide this window over to the iPhone display and access it there. This would give you access to both your primary document and your notes. Or you could use it as an auxiliary display for a game you're playing. Or you could have your IRC/IM session open on your iPhone while you work on the computer. Since it's no fun to type IM messages on the iPhone, when a new one comes in, you could respond to it typing on your laptop's keyboard.

With all of these examples, you never have to use the laptop's limited display space to view the side applications - the iPhone is a natural extension of the screen.

There are programs that do this same exact thing for WM pdas. I suppose it would be possible using some kind of VNC based solution where the server would run a virtual display driver, but the performance for these kind of things is lackluster. You can forget about gaming, even typing, to an extent, is annoying with that delay. For something like stats or notes, though, that should be possible.

Especially with an avatar image like that!

The side screen would be useful for all sorts of things - primarily viewing notes and processes running on your computer. Having two screens is amazingly useful for development. While this wouldn't be as useful as having another full monitor, it would be very portable. After all, who ever doesn't have their phone on them?

i can kind of see the use of this, i think its primarily for when your out and about (with your laptop) obviously you dont carry a second monitor around with you so then you use your iphone as one as your bound to always have it with you....small though the screen might be

I have 2 iphones for work and home while i travel internationally.

I would love to use both of them as rear view side mirrors on F1 or a bike game!

    That would be cool!
