    Default iPhone screen dimensions

I've been reading various iPhone development documentation and recall one document that indicated the actual screen resolutions for each of these components:

    1. Status bar
    2. Navigation bar
    3. Content window
    4. Toolbar
    5. Tab bar
    6. Screen indicator (?)

When developing a native iPhone application, what are the dimensions (height) of these (assuming portrait mode with a width of 320 pixels)?

    Status bar: 19 px
    Navigation bar: 43 px
    Content window: 369 px
    Toolbar: 48 px

Dunno what you mean by tab bar and screen indicator.

Thanks for those dimensions. Where did you find this in the documentation?

Apple documentation refers to a tab bar (usually black) along the bottom of the display. A good example of this are the phone, clock and ipod app.

The tab bar is similar to the toolbar (an example being the bar on the bottom of Safari).

For page indicators, look at the weather app when you have multiple cities. You flip left and right. The bottom of the screen there is a small dot that indicates which page you're on.

See iPhone Human Interface Guidelines - A Tour of the Application Window (pg. 47-56)

By the way, the dimensions listed above to not add up.

The above is a total of 479 pixels.

I found the following in the Web Development Guidelines for iPhone:

The Safari toolbar is 44 pixels.
