    @djpav
    Thanks sir for all of your help. I got it to work already. But not by restoring or rebooting my device.When Im almost hopeless, I tried installing bosspref even if i have the sbsettings, I use bosspref to turn the server "ON" then it works like a charm! I also noticed that in sbsettings alone its the other way around, even if i turn it off it's always "ON". So anyone experience same thing as mine,you can try the bosspref magic. By the way you can uninstall bosspref after using it just to turn on the wiki server and use sbsettings and your good to go. I dont know exactly whats the problem with my device but I am happy now to see my wiki back again. Thanks a lot to all of you guys! specially to sir djpav. Kudos to you sir!!!

    @pol3m: You are of course correct that if a guide is going to be called "definitive", it should include a description of how to display mathematical formulas!

    However, I have not done so for two reasons, both being of a practical nature: I am aware of the website you mention and as I understand it, the method they use to generate the math formulas is simply to change them into images which are then compressed into a .bin file and read as usual by the program. I suppose it's a solution even though it is a brute-force method that does not actually "render" formulas but rather "displays pictures" of them. I personally don't like this solution but my problem was disk space - I have a 2G/ 1st generation iphone with 8GB storage so I have never tried it. Have you tried this method and if so, could you please let us know what were the corresponding time to download/time to compress/space requirements ?

    The second reason I did not include it is also disk space, but this time on hackintosh itself! Posts on this forum are limited to 10000 characters and god knows how many times I had to trim words and whole sentences to get the guide below the limit when I was making changes to it. As it is, the guide right now is like 9,997 characters - I simply can't add anything to it unless I post a "part 2"! It'd be great if somebody could develop a *real* method for rendering formulas. As an aside, the developer of "wikipanion" knows how to do this very well but his software does not allows for full offline viewing of the entire wikipedia database.

    @Jerico: Glad to hear that you got it to work on 3.13 - and as pol3m mentioned, it works on 4.0 as well!. He is also correct that the Cydia version and the version directly from the website are exactly the same - only a minor filename change listing a newer date.

    Now this is something I mentioned in this thread before, and I will make it clear once again: Wiki2touch does *not* absolutely require SBsettings and the associated wiki2touch toggle switch in order to work; by default, when you install wiki2touch server from Cydia, the server is turned ON and the software should work with nothing else required. However, without the SBstettings toggle you just don't have any way to switch the server on and off! This flexibility (to turn the server on and off) is quite advantageous for (i) problem solving/troubleshooting, (ii) by turning it off you can save battery when you don't need to use wiki2touch, and, (iii) allows you to switch the server off when you need to use port :8080 for something else (look at the post by jbarr earlier in this thread). So, yes, the SBsettings toggle is really optional but highly, highly advantageous and recommended by yours truly, which is why I include it in the guide.

    Finally, in theory the bosspref trick you used should have given the same result as the SBsettings toggle - in fact bigboss himself does not support bossprefs any longer as SBstettings is an upgrade of bossprefs. But hey, sometimes things are crazy and on more than one occasion I had to install and uninstall wiki2touch and the SBsettings toggle before they all worked as they should!!

    Hi!

    Had the same problem as jericho.
    I did several installations on different devices, so I think the problem was
    not between my ears.
    Installed the wiki server and sbsettings toggle several times but could
    not get a connection to the server.
    After I installed the Bossprefs with the wiki toggle everything works fine.
    Deinstalled Bossprefs and I am happy now!

    Thanks jericho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the detailed guide. I was one of those who needed to install BossPrefs in order to get the SBSettings toggle working (and the server itself, too - as the server never worked until BossPrefs was installed) on iPhone 3GS (3.0.1), but now I can't get Wiki2Touch working after I upgraded to 4.0 earlier this week.

    Symptoms are exactly the same as was in 3.0.1 - installation from Cydia succeeds, but the toggle stays green or red (usually red) after each install attempt, and Safari complains that it "could not connect to the server" - even when the toggle was stuck in green.

    I considered installing BossPrefs, but a cursory search showed that it crashes, so I don't want to risk it.
    Manual installing of wikisrvd-0.1.20091028.deb did not improve the situation.

    I then looked at "Filesystem Content" of the toggle in Cydia, and I was able to guess which script is supposed to run when the button is pushed. When I run launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.wiki.wikisrvd.plist (which I found in /var/mobile/Library/SBSettings/Commands/com.sbsettingswiki2touch.enable) as root, Safari doesn't complain and I get the Wiki2Touch search page and can browse contents. Toggle is still stuck in red, but the server is running and usable - although this means that I can't turn it off except from the shell.

    1. Could it be that the server and the toggle in Cydia are mismatched, or causes mismatch for certain environment (what could the differenciating factor be)?
    2. How can I make my button run the above com.sbsettingswiki2touch.enable/disable scripts?
    2.1 Is there a script for the button that I can edit, or would it take compiling or something too challenging?
    2.2 How can I determine which file my button is currently configured to run when pushed - so that I can perhaps solve the problem by creating/renaming/substituting the file?
    3. Why does installing BossPrefs fix the problem - does it rename/overwrite/link to certain files? Could manually running the relevant steps fix the problem?
    4. Running the script as mobile results in error (Socket is not connected) - could it be file permission problem or toggle assuming the root password has not been changed from alpine?

    Some additional information. I suspect many are common sense, but I'm just a quasi IT guy living predominantly in Windows domain.

    1. Manually-enabled (by running /var/mobile/Library/SBSettings/Commands/com.sbsettingswiki2touch.enable) server does not survive reboot.

    2. Permissions for enable/disable/check scripts are 755.

    3. com.sbsettingswiki2touch.check gives two errors:
    ./com.sbsettingswiki2touch.check: line 2: wc: command not found
    ./com.sbsettingswiki2touch.check: line 2: [: -ne: unary operator expected

    FYI, the check script is this:
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ $(launchctl list|grep wiki.wikisrvd|wc -l) -ne 1 ]; then
    rm -f /tmp/wiki.on
    else
    mkfile 1 /tmp/wiki.on
    fi

    4. Manually starting the server does not create /tmp/wiki.on file; however, hitting 'Refresh' on SBSettings panel creates it - probably because refresh results in the check script running. Because the script doesn't run correctly, it always results in creating the file even when the server is not running. Because the toggle thinks the server is running (presence of wiki.on file,) pressing the button runs disable script - whether the server is on or off - so the server never gets turned on.

    So, why is the check script failing for some of us, and how can we correct it?

    Downloaded iphone-binkit-0.04.tar.gz (5.29MB).
    Afraid of causing irreparable damage, copied only wc to /usr/bin which is /private/var/stash/bin. Set permission to 755.
    wc command doesn't run (gets Killed), so copied libarmfp.dylib from the binkit to /usr/lib, set permissoin to 755 - wc still gets killed.

    What else do I have to copy? If all files, that would mean overwriting bash - would it not cause problems? (Is binkit 0.04 tested on iOS 4.0?)

    How can we write the check script without wc? I tried something like the following, but I get syntax error.
    if [ -z (launchctl list|grep wiki.wikisrvd) ] ; then

    @3mon
    I have now a working wiki2touch on my ipod3g os 4.0. Even from the start I am fully aware that wikisrv works even without those toggles and consecutively there are reports that Bossspref is crashing on ios4, so I didnt bother to install those toggles.
    Need to know something.. If all my radio (Wifi/BT) switched off, does the port consumes some of my battery? Sorr for the noob Q.

    Default How to auto-hide the Safari Address bar

    I have W2T working just fine on iOS4 on my 2nd Gen iPod Touch.

    Here's a small update that you can apply to auto-hide the Safari Address bar on load.

    You need to edit the index.html file located in
    Code:
    /varmobile/wikisrvd/daemon/webcontent
    Around line 131, insert the following code listed in BLUE. (I left the surrounding code for context.)

    Code:
    	******** language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    		var _baseUrl = "/wiki/";
    		var url;
    		var _defaultLanguageCode = "";
    		var _currentLang = "";

    		addEventListener("load", function() { setTimeout(hideURLbar, 0); }, false);

    		function hideURLbar()
    		{
    			window.scrollTo(0,1);
    		}

    		function GetXMLHTTPObject()
    		{
    			var errMsg;
    			var xmlHttp;
    Then, near the bottom, add several "break" codes to expand the page slightly like this:

    Code:
    	<div id="titleBox" class="titleBox">
    		<br />
    		<span style="font-family:Arial; font-size:18px">Wiki2Touch - Wikipedia to go</span>
    		<br />
    		<br />
    		<a href="#" class="linkMain" onclick="document.location.href='/ajax/RedirectToRandomArticle'+_currentLang;"><img src="./images/wiki-en.png" alt="Wiki globe" class="imageGlobe"/></a>
    		<br />
    		<br />
    		<span style="font-family:Arial; font-size:12px">Database date: 03-Aug-2010</span><br />
    		<span style="font-family:Arial; font-size:12px">Articles: 10,169,710</span><br />
    		<br />
    		<br />
    		<br />
    		<br />
    		<br />
    	</div>
    	<div id="suggestionList" class="suggestionList"></div>
    (Note that I removed the "Help" URL and replaced it with simple manually-updated Database Date and Article Count lines.)

    Have fun!

    Update: For some reason, it doesn't work in two instances: if launched from a Home Screen icon, or if you have multitasking turned off, the page is active in Safari, you exit Safari, and you re-launch Safari. So basically, it only really works if you launch it from a shortcut within Safari, or if you manually reload the page. Any suggestions for improvement are appreciated!

    I noticed that some articles are not loading (I get "Could not Complete Request. Could not connect to server"). However, majority of the articles I can load, but just to illustrate, maybe I can ask you guys to try out searching for

    Catenary
    Recursion

    I dug a little deeper, and I looked for "Train" (which loaded), and tried to find a link to catenary, and when I clicked on it, I just get a page "301PermMove". Maybe this is what is causing the unable to connect?

    Any thoughts or anyone else having these problems?

    You're right. I get the same error when I search for these words while I can search many other words without a problem.

    Couldn't find the link to catenary in the long article.
