    Default [GUIDE] setup korean input / keyboard in 10 minutes ;)

    UPDATE: 2008/07/15
    iPhone Firmware 2.0 is out:

    IPHONE FIRMWARE 2.0 PROVIDES FULL KOREAN TEXT INPUT SUPPORT AS WELL AS COMPLETELY KOREAN MENUS!

    EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T WANT 2.0 FOR ANY REASON PLEASE USE MY GUIDE FOR OLDER FIRMVERSIONS TO INSTALL "KM KOREAN KEYBOARD" AS FOLLOWS

    Question:
    Does Firmware 2.0 support Text Files which have been written with the KM Keyboard of older Firmversions? In other words, people who have used the KM Keyboard as describe in this tutorial and upgraded to 2.0, can you still read your korean notes from firmware 1.1.4?
    -> I still couldn't check it out. I will update as soon as I know it.

    Thanks 2 u all!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    hi!

    i am a german from hamburg and was really interested in setting up korean language on my iphone. my girlfriend is korean and i can speak the language so i thought it might be funny sending korean language short messages between her and my iphone.

    with this guide you will get
    *korean input
    *korean/latin keyboard (you can see latin and korean character together on each keyboard button)

    BACKUP: Before you begin you might open winscp and backup the whole folder
    /Frameworks [path: /System/Library/Frameworks/]. This is important if you want to uninstall korean input later

    Firmware 1.1.3 / 1.1.4:
    -----------------------------
    1) Add "agaat.info/demo" to your sources in the installer app
    2) go to localization and install "KM korean Keyboard 1.1.3"
    3) Enable two keyboards a) English (US) b) English (UK)
    4) Restart your phone

    (for more details take a look at the 1.1.2 tutorial beneath, the only difference is that you don't have to copy any framework with open ssh, still you should do the beackup first in order to be able to uninstall korean input later)

    Firmware 1.1.2:
    ---------------------
    let's begin:
    you need: jailbroken 1.1.2 iphone, open ssh, winscp, wireless lan connection to your computer/iphone

    IMPORTANT!!! first of all go to settings -> general -> auto-lock and make sure its set to "never" !!! else you might auto.lock your iphone during the upcoming download
    BACKUP: Before you begin you might open winscp and backup the whole folder
    /Frameworks [path: /System/Library/Frameworks/]
    thats important if you want to uninstall the korean character keyboard later

    ok, now we're ready to go:

    1) go to installer -> sources -> edit -> add: http://agaat.info/demo
    2) go to install -> localization -> KM Korean Keyboard for 1.1.2 -> install

    during the installation progress you might get a message that your disk space isn't enough, thats normal, don't worry.

    3) now leave the installer by pushing the home button, you will automatically go back to the "slide to unlock" screen
    4) go to this korean homepage (http://codedesign.tistory.com/21) and download the file keyboard-latin.zip and unzip it
    5) connect your iphone to ssh (if its not connected yet)
    6) open winscp on your pc computer
    7) browse to

    /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/

    and overwrite the file "Keyboard-Latin.artwork" with the one you just downloaded [notice: you might want to do the backup as described above first !!]

    8) go to iphone settings -> general -> international -> keyboards
    here you gotta enable the two keyboards English and English (UK) both
    9) hit the home button

    10) REBOOT YOUR IPHONE (without rebooting you might see the keyboard but wont be able to actually write korean characters)

    FINISHED
    enjoy!

    usage:
    when you are typing, then...
    english (us) - keyboard = english input
    english (uk) - keyboard = korean input
    (you can change the input keyboard with the "globe" symbol next to the space button)

    uninstall:
    simply go to: installer -> uninstall
    but there will be the characters still remaining on your keyboard after uninstall is finished. then you can overwrite the new files with the old ones that you saved in the backup at the beginning

    peepz to http://codedesign.tistory.com/
    they are the ones who invented this method

    kci23,

    Not sure if anything has changed, but all I did was use the following steps from your guide:
    1) go to installer -> sources -> edit -> add: http://agaat.info/demo
    2) go to install -> localization -> KM Korean Keyboard for 1.1.2 -> install
    8) go to iphone settings -> general -> international -> keyboards
    here you gotta enable the two keyboards English and English (UK) both
    9) hit the home button
    10) REBOOT YOUR IPHONE (without rebooting you might see the keyboard but wont be able to actually write korean characters)

    I have noted on their site, they have a new Keyboard zip file for download, but with only the steps above, i am able to enter Korean perfectly using notes/email etc.

    Thanks for the info you put here in this thread!

    i've installed this through installer, and selected the 1.1.3 version

    when i go to type a sms, where the keyboard should be, it's black instead,

    how do i go about reverting to the original setting??

    plus, is this confirmed to work with 1.1.3? and what are the steps, same as for 1.1.2?

    cheers

    Is there a 2 letter code for Korean? (probably "ko"?)

    this is what i did to install Japanese on 1.1.3... i wonder if i can do the same to add a string for <string>ko</string> in order to activate a korean keyboard (i currently have "en_us" "it" and "ja"

    1. install mobilefinder
    2. install mobiletext edit
    3. in MobileFinder, navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Preferences
    4. highlight GlobalPreferences.plist
    5. click on File->Modify->Open with->TextEdit.app
    6. this will open a new screen with the code for the global preferences. scroll down to find

    <array>
    <string>en US</string>
    </array>

    ...and edit it to add a line so it looks like this:

    <array>
    <string>en US</string>
    <string>ja</string>
    </array>

    does anyone know the 2-letter codes for other asian languages not included on the keyboards for the settings menu for 1.1.3, such as korean, mandarin, cantonese?

    IT WORKED with "ko"!! so easy, no need to reboot, takes about 15 seconds to install hangul on my phone, and i can type, etc.

    here are the exact steps:
    1. install mobilefinder
    2. install mobiletext edit
    3. in MobileFinder, navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Preferences
    4. highlight GlobalPreferences.plist
    5. click on File->Modify->Open with->TextEdit.app
    6. this will open a new screen with the code for the global preferences. scroll down to find

    <array>
    <string>en US</string>
    </array>

    ...and edit it to add a line so it looks like this:

    <array>
    <string>en US</string>
    <string>ko</string>
    </array>

    I keep reading to open with textedit.app, but when I do it comes up as garbage. I'm running 1.1.3 broken through ZiPhone.

    (1.1.3) go to installer-> sources ->edit -> add = http;//agaat.info/demo

    then in install go to localization and install the last one (1.1.3)

    hit home.

    then go to generals -> international -> then select keyboard and enable 2 (US and UK)

    hit home.

    restart the phone.

    then check in sms. the keyboard should have korean letters with a globe next to the space bar.
