I second the motion for work on java support. I'm not sure on the practicality of java, but I'd love to see it. So many things use java, and with built in java processing on the iPhone's processor it just makes more sense. Also, Steve Jobs has stated something to the effect of Java being an old standard. This would lead me to believe he has no plans to implement Java on the iPhone.

The fact that there is a plugin folder on the phone leads me to believe they plan to add it

    (A) Can we port gnash to the iPhone?
    (B) Is java open source and if not is there open source equivalent ?
    (C) Can the open source equivalent port to the iPhone?

I think the reason that some people are slightly irritated is because of the original message. It's the one in all caps and in a big green font to ensure that we would all see it.

Basically, this *could* be interpreted as: "Quit wasting your time coding useless crap that no one uses and code something for ME. Flash! So I can play my PopCap games! It's so easy. I would do it in a second if I just knew how to code. These elitist programmers that only worry about VT100 and emulators... they should be working on the REAL problem. Flash!"

As a programmer, I get this all the time. Some of our "not so bright" clients are absolutely sure that we're just sitting around playing video games or we're just too lazy to code something easy for them... especially "THE MOST NEEDED (opinion) PEICE OF CODE".

So, the next question (and not picking on anyone) is... if you can't even take the time to use proper grammar and spelling in your short post - something that is truly "easy", why should anyone get off their lazy butt to code something for you... for free. I mean, they're all sitting around waiting for someone to beg them to code a Flash plug-in, right?

Entitlement. In about 10 years, everyone will expect everything to be handed to them because they deserve it.

... and just to attempt to keep my post barely on topic. Yeah, there's a plug-in directory and Flash isn't open source. However, I've seen a few open source projects to build Flash players for different platforms.

Don't know if this is worth anything...

Thanks nnolasco, I think you've summed up the general feelings of every coder that has read this thread.

Can an moderator please ban icanscan? Every single one of his posts has been about dvd to iphone conversion software. It is quite clear he offers nothing relevant to the discussion on native iPhone applications.

I would like to see a Flash Plugin for Safari too. Lost of site I visit use it and all I see is Blue X's all over the pages. I'm actually surprised Apple launched iPhone with out it. Because technically their TV ads are false advertising. Your really not seeing the true internet.

Anyone working on this project I wish good luck and would be glad to help out if I can.

I don't think Flash will ever be released for this generation of iPhones, and it's simple: flash takes up way too much processing power.

Do you really think Apple would have a difficult time getting Flash on an OSX based OS using their own browser? What do you think would have been easier? For Apple to install Flash, and get all websites, including Youtube working, or working out a strange deal with Youtube so that they could stream specific content to the iPhone?

Jobs and Apple is all about aesthetics over functionality. If it's a decision between functionality or aesthetics, they'll kill the functionality to keep things pretty. And that's what they've done here.

So even if by some miracle somebody was able to code Flash for the iPhone, it would be practically useless on this device. Try sitting in front of an older computer, say something with a 500mhz CPU, and hit up some flash sites, and see what the experience is like.

English is not a latin language. It's a germanic language.
Latin languages are "romance" languages -- Spanish, French, Italian, etc. The generally have gender based nouns and strict conjugation, unlike English.

A lot of words in English are Latin-based, but the language itself isn't.
