Why, to say that he has Firefox on his iPhone, of course!

Seriously though, there is little to no chance that anyone-even if they were paid by apple-would be able to get Firefox to work acceptably iPhone. The reason: Firefox is simply too memory intensive. You think Safari crashes a lot now? Imagine how unstable Firefox would be.

Besides, what's so wrong about Safari? It's easily the best mobile browser out there (sorry, Opera Mini. You had your day in the sun ).

Firefox is open source, but I think you'd have to optimize the hell out of it, and also modify it so that it can run off the ARM processor of the iPhone. Please correct me, as I really not sure if I know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, you're right. In a sense, it could be done, but good luck, as I doubt anyone else shares your passion, so you're pretty much alone.

Is your DVR "closed" or "open" i.e. can you modify it? It is likely using some fancy none-valid html or something...

try submitting your DVR's html code to the W3C validator see if you get something...

does your DVR have maybe a "simple" version which would work (sort of like a theme)?

And you actually think it'll be better and faster on the iPhone? iPhone safari and mac OS X safari are two different things. Do either of the Mac OSX browsers understand gestures? rotation? rubberbanding? automatically scaling fonts to better viewing? You bet that Apple put a TON of effort into optimizing safari, not to mention to also work with the OFFICIALLY supported Web 2.0 SDK, which would also have to be magically ported over w/o source... this request is absurd.

like other people have suggested, figure out why your DVR site doesn't support it. Heck, sadly there's sites out there that don't work well outside of IE still, it's sad. Your site needs to change, or the better option would to be to right a plugin for Safari - I don't know much about but I hear it's possible.

but enough pointless firefix-bashing. Let's see if we can't solve the actual problem.

When you say safari can't access the DVR's web pages - what do you see? Is it running a java applet? What make/model DVR is it?

It may be possible to solve the issue that way. FF on the iPhone just ain't gonna happen.

"Well...I'm a Red Sox fan. Does that count?"
    Go Sox!
