    have already looked into this:

    http://developer.apple.com/DOCUMENTA...ual/Bluetooth/

But I could not find a good base to work with.

So I decided to work on the python idea i referred to earlier.
Downloaded lightblue and studied the package.

It seems a possible solution. It mounts its own OBEX server and the
entire code for basic operations is provided.

    Todro,
i also found a A2DP profile in python working on linux that
should be easily ported, but this can be done later.

Now it's late, I will finish the installation tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the good work. Max
Sounds interesting, post when you have someone to test : )

    Default Scanning for Bluetooth devices

I know there has been much frustration with the way the iPhone's Bluetooth capabilities have been crippled, but I only need to squeeze a little more functionality out of it. I played with the BluetoothManager framework for awhile and realized that you can only detect Headset devices. What I hope to do is be able to scan (i.e. get Bluetooth ID's or MAC addresses and, if possible, signal strength) for all bluetooth devices in proximity. I know we haven't yet solved the problem of sending files via Bluetooth but I really hope at least this is possible.

So far, I am slightly hopeful about the MobileBluetooth framework, but I haven't been able to find any documentation on it. I wasn't even able to extract the headers with class-dump. I would really appreciate it if anyone happened to have the headers to this framework. Alternatively, it would be great if anyone knew of any other frameworks (possibly there are some other Network classes I could use) or if there was a low-level way I could scan (like hcitool or something) for local devices. Thanks.

We bought another iphone for testing...

We are still working on the idea of the Lightblue port. We will develop the framework first and then the python library. It's more work than we initially thought and it will take some time.

I am gathering a team to get this thing cracked, if anybody wants to help, please by all means.

I think we would need to port three apps to the iphone to get this to work:

    http://dev.zuckschwerdt.org/openobex/
    http://org.csail.mit.edu/pybluez/
    http://sourceforge.net/project/downl..._mirror=heanet

Has anyone tried to install these wihtout actually doing anything to the source code? There is a chance they might work, as aircrack-ng for linux works for the iphone without any problems/modification.

I'll have a go at installing these and let you guys know how it went.

I've tried to compile BlueZ, but it needs a kernel to be patched. Also I've tried to compile Affix, but it needs some linux headers to compile as kernel module.
The only thing I've managed to compile, is lwBT, but it only implements HCI, L2CAP, SDP and RFCOMM, anyway, it's only API and some frontend should be developed.

This also look like a good avenue. The Openobex has plenty of supporting projects that complement it. Let us know if it actually works as you suggest.

We did try to install the linux version of Lighblue on the iphone and it does not work. We are trying now to use the OS X port, using Xcode 3 on leopard and bringing it over the phone.
