Hehe, actually when I read that line, I realized he intended a lighter tone since that is a quote from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. (french castle guard)

I do understand both side's reasonings, and I think a player will surface eventually since it is such a widely used format. Although as much as divx support would be nice, there are several other areas I would much rather see dev's time put towards. There are some features that would make a world of a difference to some people that don't exist currently (we already have a video player regardless of format). I am dying for 802.1x (LEAP/PEAP) network auth support since many Universities including my own use this protocol and all the iPhone users cannot connect currently.

I admit that I first read this thread because I also wanted the convenience of watching freshly downloaded DIVX on my iPhone --my old-ass AMD-2200+ CPU takes a long time to convert video files...

So I agree that if you ignore the battery life/performance issue, DIVX would be awesome on the iPhone, mostly because it saves a ton of time and planning to convert files. (if you are like me, you never realize you want a file on your iPhone until you are about to leave the house, and it's already too late to do anything that takes longer than just syncing...)

    BUT

There's another point nobody has mentioned yet: the issue of finite storage in the iPhone. Someone brushed this issue earlier when they said they didn't want to have to store 700mb for the original DIVX movie file, plus 300 more for the converted file. Think about that... THE NEW FILE IS LESS THAN HALF THE SIZE. It's because you get to cut the resolution way down to fit the iPhone's screen. Are you seriously going to keep arguing that the original file's DIVX is more efficient now?

In my opinion, the most important factor here is that even if I could watch DIVX on my iPhone, the files would be more than twice as big as they need to be due to being higher quality (resolution) than my screen could support.

The bottom line is that we all have to convert our files anyway in order to get around this file-size-resolution issue, so we might as well just convert them to mp4 at the same time and sidestep the whole battery-life issue.

So I've given up on DIVX for iPhone. It's not worth wasting that much of my limited 8gb of storage. The solution for me is that I need a faster computer to do the conversion!

I would like to have a divx app on my iphone to play what 'get on my hands' i am aware of the battery live and other issues but for me it would be ok to watch something once in a while and then delete it ( as i do with my pocketPC ).

Even with the 'issues' around it, I would like to have an app like this on my iPhone.
