Thank you for something helpful mitchell! This is more of the spirit I am looking for!

EDIT: Oh, and mitchell, how are you testing your app if you don't have an iPhone?... I know there is the simulator but doesnt that simulate 2.0?

Instead of decompiling SpringBoard, you might consider the approach SummerBoard takes. It's the application that allows the use of themes and, on firmwares before 1.1.3, multiple screens. If it can change all the icons to different .png pictures, maybe something like that can change the icons to .png icons that are rotated over 90 degrees...

SummerBoard is implemented (on 1.1.2 at least) by inserting a 'dynamic library' in SpringBoard and other processes, /Library/Frameworks/SummerBoard.framework/SummerBoard.dylib. They probably didn't decompile very much, or at least they didn't have to violate any copyrights in distributing their application.

Maybe you should talk to the creators of SummerBoard about what they did -- you can send them an email straight from Installer.

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

That would be a good idea, the main thing about that that concerns me is the statusbar and dock, turning the apps that way wouldnt be hard.

My way would be harder overall, but the statusbar and icons would be easier. It would be hard to deocmpile the app.

I will try to get in contact with nullriver and Big Boss.

you see the thing is, because you cant get apps to run in the background you would have to create a new summerboard, and then make it so when you click the home key it goes to your custom summrboard, when you install apps, they go to the custom summerboard, when you slide to unlock, it goes to the custom summerboard,

this app is possible but very hard work, and alot of code involved it it...

    thanks

Well, don't apps run in the background on 1.1.4? I thought they did... I am not planning on making this for 2.0 originally, I would update it to be compatible with 2.0 when 2.0 is released though.

I am currently downloading over 30 videos on coding and stuff from iTunes Developer Connection. so I am going to watch a bunch of those.

EDIT: Ok, for some reason I thought they did. What about Insomnia, doesnt that let apps run in the background?

On my phone, I currently have Fring and colloQ running in the background (two third-party apps), and the SummerBoard library is also loaded (so I have theme support). So yes, things can run in the background.
