    No, you install it through Installer.

    Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

    Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

    Cydia is designed to be replacement of Installer. That means uninstalling should be as easy as uninstalling the Installer. In other words very difficult. You may try uninstalling it manually but there will be “side” effects for sure. I would not recommend uninstalling Cydia. If you somehow get rid of it, I’ll recommend at least to reinstall BSD subsystem after that.

    I am not a developer and I never created a Debian package by my self. I am just a heavy Debian user. If your interest is as developer then good place to start is here http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide/ . If you are just a user who wants to have more packages available /like me/ then wait until someone announces link to his repo in Debian format. Most likely it will be in Cydia already. Maybe later I'll post general instructions how to add link to new sources in Cydia.

    In *nix systems /Unix, Linux etc./ is not recommended users to work with the most powerful account. Some tasks however can be done only by the root. The “su” /Super User/ command allow the regular user to become a root. Of course for a security reasons the root password must be provided in order to become a root. So the “su” command ALWAYS expect root’s password.
    If on your phone the default password /alpine/ is reported as invalid that means;
    - The password is changed.
    - You made a mistake typing the password /typo/.
    - There is a something broken in your *nix base system.
    Back to your problem.
    Are you sure the Cydia package is installed? I am not sure is “su” exist/works if Cydia is not installed.
    Is there any other way to provide “alpine” password to your phone and that password to be accepted like WinSCP or PuTTY for example?
    And remember there are a couple reports that changing password in FW v. 1.1.3 /I guess in 1.1.4 too/ will make your SpringBoard to crash.

    Are you typing "su" or "SU"? In *nix commands are case sensitive.

    well, I changed the name to AppStore and changed the icon and it worked once now crashes, same with with installer, but I put by backup back to fix it and it still crashes, so I have no installer and only SSH to fix my problems, I'm on 1.1.3, so I'll probably restore to 1.1.4 sooner or later anyway
