I've been looking all over trying to find cron for the iPhone and it looks like this thread is trying to do the same. Then I read about the launch daemon. It implements everything that cron can do. In fact, in Leopard (from what I read) cron was excluded in the os. And it looks like it's this way in the iPhone OS now. There's a page out there that shows how to take cron tasks and change them so they work with the launch daemon.

It'd be great if you could post the link for that page! I'm going nuts trying to make Erica Sadun's findme service stable enough, but it looks like using launch daemons works only for some cycles then stops completely...

    Download from here,

    h**p://www.rapid$hare.com/files/96834608/Schedule.zip.html

    Command line arguments,

    Code:
    # ./Schedule -h
    Usage: Schedule [OPTION]
    -H	xx	Hour
    -m	xx	Minuites
    -M	xx	Month
    -D	xx	Day
    -Y	xx	Year
-C	xx	Command to execute with arguments
-p Delete any AutoWake events and exit
    An example using Erica's playaudio,

    Code:
    ./Schedule -H 16 -m 5 -M 3 -D 3 -Y 2008 -C "/var/root/bin/playaudio /Library/Ringtones/Duck.m4r"
    A great program
I had wrote some scripts using Schedule, to replace crond
    Download from h**p://iphone.54ps.com/zips/iSchedule_V0.1.zip

I use php scripts to parse the scheme file, if someone can migrate to awk

BTW: the Schedule maybe have some bug , sometime it not to correct run the command and end self...

I am trying to use 'Schedule' on iPhone 2.0 software. In order to run 'Schedule' I needed to sign the binary ('apt-get install ldid', 'ldid -S Schedule'). However, now a missing library is reported:

    iPhone:~/ $ ./Schedule -h
    dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/LayerKit.framework/LayerKit
    Referenced from: /private/var/mobile/./Schedule
    Reason: image not found
    Trace/BPT trap

Is the source to 'Schedule' available or would 'freedom' consider building a 2.0 compatible version.

    Thanks. E

I'd also like to know if there's a way to do either:
    - keep an application running after the iPhone goes to sleep
    - automatically set up a cron job on an iPhone just by installing an application

I'm trying to make an application that would be more useful if it could have some always-on feature...

Could this be used to say, turn off/on services at certain times?

Say bluetooth on at 7am, off at 8am, then on again at 5pm, but off at 6pm?

    thanks
