Default [CoverArt] Change the default pic?

Is there a way to change the default cover art picture that shows when a tune does not have the art? I hate the default gray one.

Does anyone know of any software that can do this or can the file just be changed on the phone with another jpg, png? Where might I find the file?

Try replacing /Applications/MobileMusicPlayer.app/CoverFlowPlaceHolder44.png (the dark image that goes in the cover flow area when there's no picture), and noartplaceholder.png from the same location (the lighter one that goes in the straight-up screen). Find a png file and make it 44x44 pixels and rename it to CoverFlowPlaceHolder44.png. The other one should be 256x256 pixels.

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

You could just get all your cover art, it's not that tough. If you highlight all songs in an album, or just one if that is the case, then 'get info' you can squirt whatever piece of art you want into the album art space in tunes. If you want the proper album art, just use google images and make sure that the picture you use is no more than 300x300. There are plenty of guides floating in the ether, google is your friend.
    Peace,

I did that -- but I must say it's a day of work on any substantial music collection. Also you can put less music on the phone, because - get this - the picture is saved not once per album, but in each track! Otherwise it doesn't always display. Stupid waste of disk space.

It was months of work on my library (fixing tags, filenames and covers) but it was worth it

If you have a cover that's say 300x300 compressed as jpeg then it's usually 10-30 kbytes, very small compared to the average 3-5 mb per mp3, less than 1% increase. In other words, if you were to fill 8gb of music the space wasted by covers would be approximately equal to just a couple of songs. I like the approach of embedded covers, then when I send just a file to someone they still get to see the cover without bothering with folder.jpg and all that.

If you use windows, then I can recommend "iTunes Art Importer". It does most of the covers automatically if you have filled in the info for the mp3 correctly.

Oh I have almost all the cover art, but there are some bootlegs and some home made comps that nothing can be found.

Just google the band's images and use a photo you like.

A workaround is putting an image you like in all mp3s that do not have coverart already. Get Mp3Tag and use it to automatically add the image to all your mp3s on your hard drive that do not have coverart already. You will need to figure out how to do it but it's a great program so you will probably make good use of it anyway.
