Default Bounty for native iPhone Dream App

lets make this a pool to decide which would be the native Dream App for the iPhone. Afterwards lets do a donation pool which would be paid off to the first one who gets the job done.

    My proposals:

    - a decent download manager for safari: download files directly from safari and save them in folder. maybe even ad the option to directly ad audio files to the ipod on the iphone, and on the next sync they would be transfered to itunes.

    - excel-like spreadsheet app (maybe even a full blown office suite. i doubt tough the usefulness of such)
    - cpu meter (maybe not a dream app but would be quite usefull developing energy friendly apps)

    - decent torrent client: now with a flat 24/7 connection to the internet and 8GB memory why not?

    - as a option to the torrent-client, a movie- / tv-shows online-shop: sure would be nice to have the option to browse trough the latest tv-shows or movies and buy them on the go during long travels.

    - kismac: somewhere i saw a request for it. not my thing though

    - VLC: sure would be nice to have a good, fully working media player with the codec support VLS has.

    - Mind manager/devonthink: i'm talking here about the idea, not a port. myself i like having something to take notes on the go. would be nice if there was something more usefull on the iphone than the built in "notes".

    Default MMS (Multimedia Messaging)

MMS messaging would be by far my dream app... Whether or not it's possible to capture the message request before the iphone says it doesn't support it to the network and then receive it manually I'm not sure. Decoding it surely wouldn't be difficult, I haven't looked but the format must be fairly well documented... Thoughts?

    Lightbulb Video Record and Playback

It would be nice to have a Video Recorder and Playback function and MMS to send it

I've been looking at the mms protocol, it actually looks completely possible... I simply don't have time to start trying to code it... I will continue to look for links with information that could be useful and I'll post them back here. It would be great if somebody feels like having a go! Probably some AT commands to send the SMS and some http stuff (which definately isn't hard) to send/receive the actual data. I'm making this sound easier than it is but I really do think that it's possible...

As for the video recorder, I guess we need to look at the source for the video chat app that those guys wrote... writing the file to disk instead of streaming it won't be hard.

That was me. It was a frivolous request really, I had a Zaurus SL5000D developer-edition PDA back in 2001-2002 (ancient) which was around the size of an iPhone, but with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, smaller single-touch screen, SD card *and* compact flash card slots.

And it ran Linux. All the way back in 2001.

As a result you could put a generic Prism2-based Wifi compact flash card in the top, and cross-compile Linux for ARM toolchain to get Kismet working on ncurses.

In those days people weren't that good at securing wireless networks, and I did a quick test from Cannon St station in the City of London to Liverpool St station (about a mile through the central financial district) and found 14 unsecure corporate networks that allocated me IPs, etc.

It was fun and would be a reasonably handy tool for the iPhone. Not for hacking / airsnort type WEP key break-ins, but just to scan the local area for *free* Wifi networks to use.

Maybe not so much of a requirement for the USA, since open community Wifi is more prevalent there - over here in the UK most Wifi is pay-as-you-go and can be expensive (2 an hour in my local pub, and that's with pints costing > 3). And as we all know, in the UK without proper EDGE, Wifi is the fastest so if I can use a tool to scan for open wireless networks then it'd be useful to get max bandwidth...

Certainly not a 'killer' app though since the OS does a fair job of listing available networks.

    Default Sms

SMS features are a bit lacking at the moment - would like the ability to forward received SMS's; send to multiple recipents, and being able to save drafts!

Oh, and being able to call a number that is texted to you from with the SMS app would be nice also - I guess that's copy and paste....

Anyone Apple developers reading I wonder!?

VLC player. So you could listen webradios, use maybe even subtitles and the most important broadcast movies over internet from your main PC to iPhone, so if you have decent wifi speed you could watch all of your movies without going to have to download them first to iPhone.
