    Default Application request: Auto on/off

Not sure this would be possible, but I'd love to see an application that turned the iphone on and off at specified times. IT would really save a lot of wear on the battery for idiots like me who can't remember to power down their phone over night.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Actually, just an "auto off" feature would be ideal, and probably easier to implement.

    Default Try auto-lock

It won't do it at pre-assigned times, but under Settings--> General - > Auto Lock

While it's called AutoLock, it really means it turns it off

have you actually used that feature? autolock just turns off the screen, not the device

Yeah - exactly. I want an app that will totally power down the phone overnight. This will really extend that battery life of the phone. I'm surprised apple didn't include one.

Why would apple include one, when there's not a single phone out anywhere with similar feature built-in? Turning the phone off at night won't save you that much battery anyway - it does turn everything unneccesary off to save battery.

But if you are really worried about the battery, such app could of course be useful, but i doubt it's possible to create something that turns the phone on.

Why don't you just turn the iPhone into airplane mode? Does pretty much as you said, turns off both the wifi and the gsm radio.

So you want an app that will put the phone in a TOTAL POWER OFF state, then *somehow* turn it on without any outside input/contact?

    Comon, think a little man.

Mathil: Actually, it should be possible in theory, after all the phone can wake up when the alarm is set even though it's "off"

compuguy: I think his point is that he forgets to turn it off at night, if he can remember to put it in airplane mode, then he can turn it off as well...

Anyway, it's not a bad idea for an app.

Ok, in light of the fact that this type of app exists for other phones (e.g., every blackberry I've ever owned), you're not making much of a point here.

However, in the spirit of being productive (unlike your post) I'll concede that you at least make the point that it maight be easier to have an auto off app. I'd settle for an app that. I usually remember to turn the phone back on.
