Default App Req: Kismet(Wellenriter) - basicly WLAN sniffer for iPhone

I think it would be doable, allso it would be uber usefull for allmost everyone. Anyone interested in developing in something similar to Wellenriter wich works on Zaurus for iPhone. I know there is a stumbler program for iphone but it has none of the advanced features. Any takers? or maybee there is some similar work n progress?

well so long as you thing its doable, then it must be, right?

Search the threads. When you can come back with anything useful, like understanding what might be involved then actually contribute something worthwhile, then you possibly, just maybe might have the right to expect an answer.

The current "Stumbler" native app. is actually very nice, it works fine but of course it lacks some advanced features like showing the manufacturer of the AP, etc.
I think that the author had a good approach with Stumbler and if he keeps developping this little program, it might be one of my favourite applications.

What I would love to see implemented is some sort of WiFi "radar" (showing the direction and distance to an AP), an AP manufacturer identifier and maybe some sort of basic sniffer or even better, a WEP automatic decrypter and a WPA brute force decrypter for up to let's say 6 or 8 digits. I'm not sure it is doable (especially the brute force WPA thingie) but I hope the author of Stumbler thinks about it.
I already like Stumbler a lot because it identifies hidden WiFi spots, a feature which most WiFi enabled phones don't have.

The problem with trying to do something like Kismet, or any other wep cracking utility, is that it is highly driver dependant. They require the ability to put your wireless card into a passive receive state in order to capture ARP requests. It would probably require a recompile of the iPhone's wireless driver to achieve :-/

    Probably not the easiest task
