Question another way to play videos

Hello I copied a mp4 file to my iphone drive, is there a 3rd party media player to open the file and play?

Does all media files have to be played thru the iPod button?

    Thanks

I've been playing about with this - for now you would have to install apache or another webserver. Put the mp4 in the weberserver root directory (and iirc rename the extension to m4v). Videos of less than 10mb will play automatically - but over that limit involves cludging a embedded web page.

What i did was copy (using curl or wget ) an apple iphone trailer page (think i used iron man) and alter the embed tag for the player (in html) to point at your local file eg http://127.0.0.1/test.mv4

bit messy (also turn off wifi so it doesn't fetch extra images etc from apple) but works as proof of concept.

Another way might be when mobliecast supports video podcasts (in the next version i hope). Should be able to make an rss feed that points locally.

Hope this was of some help

there is a little application called iPhone Remote that you install on your mac. It wil let you stream movies and music from it, plus it have tons of other cool features.

I usually do that when i am in a hurry and i don't have an itunes close, so i just place any new mp3 in the apache document root, an easy way to add and listen any new mp3 you upload when you have no itunes at hand

Maybe you can try the http://www.orb.com and the new orb 2.0 beta is good for iphone. You can stream pictures, videos, musics and file manager from your pc.
