Default [Advice] Thunderbird contact sync with iPhone

    Hi Guys,

I have been working on an app which will let you sync the thunderbird contacts with iPhone.

Its a .NET app uses the Manzana library to communicate with iPhone. I have also figured out a way to read the Thunderbird contacts and I am almost done with Thunderbird to iPhone one way sync. (meaning wipe out all the contacts on iphone with the thunderbird contacts)

The problem is that whenever I add a new contact to the thunderbird contacts file (which is the worst database format i have ever seen in my life) thunderbird gives me an error that the contacts file is corrupted! I can edit already existing fields but cant write a new contact to the tb file.

My question to you guys is.... is there any way to write the contacts to the Thunderbird file? or do you have any alternate solution to the problem? and also Do you think this is a viable project?? is it worth going ahead with the project?

    Ideas appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Umer

Mork isn't such a bad file format really, it's just not optimized for humans You got to like grammars to like it probably.

You can probably find the code to read and write that format in the Thunderbird source somewhere; documentation on it is non-existent it seems.

As for the project, Thunderbird vs. iPhone sounds like a small partial solution only. Since the iPhone will support ActiveSync with 2.0 (hope not just Exchange-OTA) and you're Windows-only anyway, why not write a Thunderbird ActiveSync plugin? That would lead the same possibility of syncing an iPhone with Thunderbird, but would also allow syncing all those WinMobile phones out there with Thunderbird as well, increasing the possible user base tenfold or more
