    Default 3D Engine

Someone asked a while back if Some 3D game could be ported to the phone and many (including myself) laughed at them. I guess I need to eat some crow. Someone's porting a 3D engine to the iPhone to create a MMORPG.

    Check it out:

    Exclamation Volunteers

We're looking for volunteers (for the MMO not really for the engine port), if you're interest please email volunteer@livingarcana.com.

I don't think so, I am not positive on this but, I believe the N64 was high poly and the iPhone will only be capable of low poly graphics.

    High poly?
Well, actually, even most of the recent games for various platforms are still rather low-poly than high-poly, at least considering what I understand under high-poly modeling.
But I'm also very excited to see what the iPhone will be able to handle.

Well, I think that everyone gets a little too hung up on the idea that high poly counts are needed to create an enjoyable or even immersive experience. I think the fact that the Wii is kicking the XBox and PS3's butt in sales is confirmation of this. There's a slowly-dawning realization in the game developer community that eye candy is great and all, but it won't mask crappy playability anymore. Playing to a device's strengths and truly developing a new approach is worth far more than realistically-rendered gore that bounces off the walls in a believable way. Second Life and World of Warcraft are nowhere near the cutting edge in terms of realism, yet they're the most popular multiplayer experiences out there.

I think it would be very possible to create an immersive experience that ran well on the iPhone and that takes unique advantage of the device's capabilities. I don't think it has to look like Halo 3, or Quake wars. Dofus has become fairly popular with fairly simple animation.

I'm really interested to see what will happen with this.
