    Lightbulb [2.0 / MacOSX][Backup/Restore] Announcement: iBaReS 2.3 for firmware 2.0 is out

    Dear all,

I've take some time because iBaReS 2.2.1 was basically ok with the new firmware,
but now right in time for the 2.0.1 update, I finished the 2.3 version and added full 2.0 support incl:

    - backup and restore of AppStore Apps
    - backup and restore of customized SpringBoard pics (like Dock, sliders, status bars etc)
    - better handling of linked Application directory (if linked to the big media partition).

    Hope you'll enjoy!
I'll post an update on backup/restore strategy as soon as pwnage2.0.2 is out and tested.

    Cheers,
    Kerry.

Does it have Custom Backup. For eg, only backing up AppStore Apps, etc. ?

You can select in the individual backup to backup/restore either of:
    - root settings and data
    - user settings and data
    - Applications (this includes ALL applications at the moment).

I think I'll also separate the apps into stock/third party and appstore apps in the next version, because some of the appstore apps are really HUGE and that's what makes the iTunes backup so slow, I think.

However, the iBaReS backup is much faster than iTunes and it will (in standard mode) only do a differential backup, so after the initial one, it's a matter of seconds for all future backups.

My testing today with the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.0.1 were very good and it's quite faster and better now than with 1.1.x.

    The procedure is as follows:
    * Do a complete Individual Backup with iBaReS BEFORE updating to 2.0.1
    * Build your custom ipsw file and add OpenSSH and Summerboard to be pre-installed by Cydia
    * Restore the ipsw file with iTunes
    * Let iTunes do the Restore from its own backup. This will bring back your iPhone settings and AppStore apps already
    * Do an Individual Restore with iBaReS from the previously done backup in UPDATE mode for all Applications and Settings
    * Do an Individual Restore with iBaReS from the previously done backup ONLY for user and root settings and data with update mode switched OFF
    * Reboot your iPhone

At the first run you'll have to setup the RSA comm. A terminal window will open. You'll have to switch to that window and follow the instructions
(key in "yes" when asked and provide the root password twice (will not be shown when typing!)).

Once this is setup, it will work w/o any further passwords (RSA is setup between your phone and your MAC).

I did everything you mentioned already but then it still hangs at the RSA dialog box. Help!!!

Is there anyway I can re-run the terminal screen again? I see no option there allowing me doing so.

Resolved. I deleted the original iBackup library. Now it's fine.

i'm getting stuck on rsa communication also. this app will be a lifesaver for me when i get it to work. it keeps reopening terminal and never getting any further.
    any help?

    thanks!

edit- seems to be working now...

edit edit - i have one question. after restoring all jailbroken apps, will they still show up as installed in cydia? i.e. will i be able to uninstall them via cydia? i refer mainly to intelliscreen, seeing as that goes kinda deep in system files i would rather let cydia uninstall it for me

    thanks

I installed this app on my 8GB iPod Touch on August 10th. Just to try it out I made an individual backup using default settings except for the storage path. The backup ran just fine and I promptly forgot about it.

Today, August 12th, I noticed that my iTouch had become *very* slow. It would take about 15 to 20 seconds to unlock after I had moved the unlock slider to the right. Since I had the 2 day old backup, and not much to loose, I did a restore. It took only a few seconds to complete. Now my iTouch is responding as if nothing had been wrong. It opens almost instantly after moving the unlock slider.

I am *most* impressed, and very grateful for this application - thanks for sharing.
