    Default [2.0+] App to split up iPod app into Music & Video like on iTouch

    I used the ipod2 or ipod3 app i Tweaks (1.1.1) category on 1.1.4 firmware to split up the iPod on my iPhone into a seperate Music player icon and Video player icon.

    Now after I upgraded to 2.0.1 (and later 2.0.2+) I can't figure out how to do it.

    Is there an app that does the split on cydia or installer or somewhere else... Or can you do it manually by editing a setting in a plist or such..?

    Porhaps if someone has the ipod2 or ipod3 apps they can check and see what it does and replicate it on 2.0..?

    I can't help you out here but I can say
    "Me too"

    The separate icons is the only thing I'm really missing on 2.0.

    In /Applications/MobileMusicPlayer.app/Info.plist look for
    <key>Roles</key>
    <array>

    Copy the two <dict> statements below. Go up and paste this into the
    <key>Roles</key>
    <array>
    statement. The <key>Roles</key> statement should now have three <dict> entries.
    Save and close this file.

    Now edit /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/M68AP.plist

    Add

    <dict>
    <key>displayIdentifier</key>
    <string>com.apple.mobileipod-AudioPlayer</string>
    </dict>

    <dict>
    <key>displayIdentifier</key>
    <string>com.apple.mobileipod-VideoPlayer</string>
    </dict>

    to one of the array statements. Save this file, restart Springboard et voila.
    You might rearrange your icons accordingly.

    Hope this helps.

    I am a complete goon when it comes to editing plists, I know very little about it, and I'm on windows which doesn't help either. Any chance you could upload the modded plist files for us to d/l?

    If not this isn't allowed, could you please email them to me (simonmullan"at"gmail.com)

    I would really appriciate it.

    Thanks,
    Simon

    In this thread there is a pre-made info.plist which works on my 2.0.2 iphone: http://www.modmyi.com/forums/file-mo...-ipod-app.html

    You somehow need to get to the phone anyway to replace the files and you also need to modify M68AP.plist because this file is probably not unique, so if you edit one you can edit both.
    If you use Winscp you can grab the two files, convert them to xml if necessary (they might or might not be in binary format, mine were) and modify them on Windows. Then copy the modified version back to the original location, you don't need to convert them back to binary. At one point I used http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml to convert the files from binary to xml.

    If you feel like using the command line it's faster. You can install Erica's utilities from Cydia, ssh into the iphone, convert the files to xml with
    plist -c xml1 /Applications/MobileMusicPlayer.app/Info.plist
    plist -c xml1 /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/M68AP.plist
    and then edit the files with vi.

    Note that the format of Info.plist seems to have changed between 2.0.2 and 2.1 so I don't know if you can use the pre-made 2.0.2 version on 2.1. Editing the files yourself is the safe way. Also, don't forget to make backups of your files before editing them.

    Hope that helps
