Default [1.1.4][question] Stuck at apple logo

I hope the title and section are right.

    Firmware 1.1.4otb
    BaseBand 04.04.05_G? (modem firmware?)
    Bootloader 4.6?

I deleted and reinstalled Categories and Summerboard then restarted my iphone and it's stuck on the apple logo. There's no pinwheel spinning.

If someone can't point me in the right direction as to a quick and easy fix then I think I'm gonna have to shoot myself.

I'm doing some reading on this site and I think I have to learn how to hack my iphone with the "hacking in a nutshell" thread in the Genius forum.

I really don't know anything about this. Do you think I need to get the phone back to factory settings then unlock/jailbreak/whatever... IDK??

Is there a way I can save all my photos if I do this or will they still be there when I'm done with whatever I have to do.

If you are a moderator and are going to delete this post could you please just give me a little advice for my problem before/when you do? Even a PM would be great.. Really

    Thank you Thank You

Try sshing into the phone through your computer. If it shows up, then probably some process on your phone is hanging during booting. If it doesn't respond on ssh, then the phone is not booting at all, and your only option is to restore.

If you restore, whatever data you have on the phone - be it pictures or applications or contacts - will be deleted. If you have synced your phone to iTunes recently, then you can simply restore your data to the phone after restoring the phone itself.

    So yeah, to wrap up:

    1. Try sshing into the phone. If it works, respond here again.

    2. If not, put it into restore mode and restore it to 1.1.4 and then pwn it to unlock.

Either way, respond here and I'll help you along. I'm sure other much more qualified people will do so too.
Vote up if I helped. Much appreciated.

First off, thanks alot guys for responding.

They say ignorance is bliss, but in this instance it's utter hell. anyway...

I've been reading when I can the Hacking in a Nutshell Thread:
    http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14352

He describes there Recovery/Restore Mode and something else called DFU. Will I need to unlock my phone after either of these? Is one better than the other? He says to use DFU 99 out of 100 times...

I think I have to use DFU because for Recovery/restore he says the phone will display Itunes logo with usb cable. I don't see this as I'm stuck with apple logo. Can you confirm I should use DFU please? though it seems obvious

I synced my phone with itunes not too long ago so hopefully I'm ok with my pics... hopefully.
    Thanks again, so much

Yes, you'll need to unlock your phone again after you restore your phone, regardless of whether you do it through Restore mode or DFU mode.

Basically, if you can enter your phone into restore mode, it's fine enough to restore the phone through there. Otherwise, you'll have to put your phone in DFU mode to restore it. Either way, you'll have to unlock your phone afterward.

So here's what you have to do now:

    1. Power off your phone.

    2. Let's try to restore it through restore mode first. There are many ways to do this, and this, to me, is the simplest: Keep the home button pressed on your phone while it is powered off, and then plug it into the computer. The Apple logo will show on your phone. DO NOT leave the home button during this process. You will see in a few seconds of your plugging the phone in that the iTunes logo with a power cable will show up on your phone, instead of the Apple logo. The phone is now in Restore mode. If this works, follow on. If it doesn't, read step 4 next.

    3. Start iTunes up. It will detect your phone in Restore mode. You must have the restore image (ipsw) downloaded on your computer. Press the shift key (if on Windows) or the Mac key (on, well, a Mac), I think, and press the Restore button in iTunes. This will now ask you to select the restore image from your computer. Select the 1.1.4 ipsw and restore your phone.

If you don't have the ipsw, download it from http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....2_Restore.ipsw

    4. If the phone doesn't enter into restore mode, you'll have to put it into DFU mode. I'm simply going to paste the instructions to that from the iPhone Hacking In A Nutshell thread:

Hold the power and home buttons for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button and hold the home button for another 10 seconds. At this point, connect the USB cable and iTunes should detect your phone in recovery mode. Your iPhone will not appear to be on, the screen will be dark throughout the whole process until the actual restore begins. If the screen comes back on while you're holding the power and home buttons, you're holding too long. It takes a while to get the hang of it, just keep trying.

Once the phone is in DFU mode, follow step 3.

    5. After you've restored your phone, you'll now have to pwn it (best tool out right now) to jailbreak, activate and (if you want) unlock the phone. Download the Pwnage tool for Mac or the Winpwn tool for Windows.

    Pwnage for Mac: http://xs1.iphwn.org/appcast/PwnageTool_1.1.zip

    Winpwn for Windows: www.winpwn.com

Here's a link to a guide for Winpwn. It's basically the same as Pwnage, so you'll be fine following it. Make adjustments where necessary, if at all:

    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/comm...=1&enid=957url

That should be enough for you.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

    A vote up's always appreciated.

Dude, thank you so much. I will try this as soon as I get home.

My only problem that I can forsee is that I cannot power off my phone. I have been since yesterday letting the battery on my phone drain to nothing. I don't know if this will do anything, good or bad, but will this all still work if I cannot power off my phone?

That's your step 1. anyway I'll try this when I get home and post back to either thank you or ask further.

try holding the power off button and the home button at the same time to force a restart if you're completley locked up.

As lovemygti said, hold both the power button and the home button for about eight seconds, and the phone will turn off on its own. Then follow through the steps.

Hi. I've edited this message to try to be clear and concise.

I used winpwn to restore my iphone to 1.1.4

I followed the step by step instructions using the 1.1.4.ipsw file.
    .net 2.0 framework
itunes .dll files --> unzipped and dropped the 2 .dll files into winpwn file

The end of the step by step instructions indicate to sync with itunes and use the custom .ipsw file I created to restore from itunes. The problem is that itunes doesn't recognize my sim card and so doesn't offer me the option to restore, or to do anything with my iphone for that matter.

Is this enough info to further help me?

    Thanks again,

    Budsalinger
