Your phone isn't activated, but it is unlocked. You haven't yet restored with the custom ipsw, but you have already created a custom ipsw, right?

To restore from iTunes, you have to put your phone in either restore or DFU mode. That is the only way you'll be able to restore to your custom ipsw. Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 again, but instead of restoring from the Apple 1.1.4 ipsw, select your own created ipsw.

HMMMN. I'm gonna try again to create my custom .ipsw because from itunes I got an error message.

The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (-10).

I'll write back with my results after I try again 3 or 4 times.

    many thanks, again

Okay. So here's what you do:

    1. Create a custom ipsw through winpwn with nothing but Installer, BSD Subsystem, OpenSSH and Terminal selected from the list of packages. DO NOT select any other packages. Let's just get your phone working first. Also select options to Activate your phone, and Unlock your phone.

    2. Put your phone in restore mode.

    3. Restore using the custom ipsw.

Also, when you extracted those dlls into the winpwn folder, did it ask you to overwrite any files?? I ask because from the time that I've been using winpwn, I haven't had to download and extract any dlls, so I'm guessing they've been included in the new versions. If you were asked to overwrite any files, you might've replaced newer copies of the file. If not, then it's alright.

    Do this and post here.

I'm still getting the same error message.

One thing - I didn't install terminal because I wasn't sure what to install for that. There was no application simply called Terminal. My options were:

    Terminal Fix
    and 2 options for: TERM-vt100 (1 version svn198, 2nd version svn278)

should I choose one of those? or do I need a different source for "Terminal"?

Also I reinstalled winpwn to see what .dll files might be in there already and it looks like those had newer dates than the ones I downloaded through iclarified. so I left them unchanged this time around.

Still though I'm getting the same error message.

    **edit**
I gave it a try using the app Terminal Fix.
I couldn't now get the iphone into dfu, the timing is difficult, so I used the alternate method found here:
    http://limitededitioniphone.com/how-...into-dfu-mode/
now I get the same error message with itunes except the error number is 1604 rather than -10. What the heck am I doing wrong???

Pwn your phone again. Also, this time, check the display of the phone when the scripts run on it during the pwnage process. In the end, it should say that it ended successfully. Basically, just read the final message that it displays before the phone reboots, and see if it says it was successful or not.

In the IPSW creation, select Term-vt100 svn278.

After doing that, try restoring again.

You are most probably getting that error because you're using an old version of iTunes. Make sure you're using iTunes 7.5 or above. Get the latest version if you don't have it. This is VERY IMPORTANT.

Okay. First of all, don't edit your posts and reply there. Reply properly in sequence. If I don't check the thread, I'd never know you replied.

Secondly, did you pwn the phone again? Do that, if you didn't. Thirdly, Put the phone in RESTORE MODE. You don't HAVE to go into DFU unless absolutely necessary. To put it into RESTORE MODE, power the phone off, keep the home button pressed, plug it into the USB port, and keep the button pressed until you see the iTunes logo.

Now, to review, pwn the phone again. Create a custom ipsw with Term-vt100 v278 (not Terminal Fix), BSD Subsystem, OpenSSH, Installer, and select Activate and Unlock from the options.

If that doesn't work, reply here.

Rohitk, my friend, I am forever grateful. This has been one of the most painful learning processes I've had to go through, but it was a lesson well learned.

Thank you so much for your time and effort. I tried to give you tons of props but the system only let me give you 1 thumbs up... for now.

Peace be to you and yours

I'll take from that that you got everything working. Congratulations.

    Glad to be of service.
