Why do you guys often use / create new repositories ?
Hi there !
While i deeply thank you guys for pumping out all those apps, let me ask:
Why do so many of you create new repositories instead of submitting the app(s) to ONE rep ??
I am asking because:
-1- its slightly annoying to always add a new rep for a single new app
-2- My Installer now takes AGES to refresh all Sources :-)
-3- If only one of the Sources is down it stalls forever when refreshing
So, i am not trying to be ungrateful or something but wouldn't it be great to only have one or a few REPs ??
Thanks,
Ender

That is why modmyifone made a source, hoping to to reduce sources, but it really hasnt worked yet, I still have about 10 sources to refresh lol

AFAIK there isnt a structure on any of the existing sources for developers to freely add their programs....
So, lets say I have a big repository, and every developer can send me their apps and automatically have them on the repository...
Either: I make this automatic, and there is absolutely no control over what is being disributed (and anything that anyone creates, even a virus, or a non funcionting program) can be downloaded by thousands of users that use this "central" repository...
OR: I as the maintainer need to check each package to make sure the developer is legit, which takes time, and the community doesnt like to wait.... Eventually, most packages do move to the main repositories, but if you want bleeding edge stuff, the moment it is released, you need to trust the developer and add his source, and no one is verifying his source or his app, so it is your risk...

And I think some app writers have written to the two main package repos's (Conceited and Ste) and not gotten, or had a rather delayed response. So some of them have just decided to self host rather than wait. If you go a week or two and your app doesn't get hosted, and you've mailed a couple times, you probably figure they are to busy or won't host it.

WeiPhone sent them WeDict 0.6.1 long time ago, and what happened was that the 0.5 version is still being offered by Conceited as an update which is quite annoying.

I'm having this prolem also, it would be nice if the dev team behind the installer make it so that it wouldn't refresh the sources in the beginning (or provide a way to cancel the source updating and returning the the main app)
