    Default what's the tinyproxy package?

i've been looking for a way to block ads on my iphone. i've tried editing my iphone's hosts file, but it seems that it just ignores it entirely.

so i find this package called tinyproxy in Installer.app

but it has no official website. so i google it and all i could find was info on the official linux build:
    http://tinyproxy.sourceforge.net/

i've never set up a proxy before... could I maybe use it to block ads???

I believe the tinyproxy package would be an easy way to use tunneling on the iPhone. Basically the proxy would run on the iPhone, and a computer connected to the iPhone via Wifi could tunnel through it and use the EDGE.

I think that's what it's meant for anyways...

    Anyone tried to use it?
    How did you configure it?
    Does it work?

    Thx

    Tinyproxy default port is 8888.

You should use your iPhone's IP address (wifi net) and 8888 as port number in your browser's proxy configuration.

I haven't tried it yet, but it probably uses 8888, I guess.

    Thanks Pablo.

I found out the port it uses is 8080.

I set up safari to use my iPhone as a proxy but it doesn't work:

    tinyproxy 1.7.0

    Unhappy

The website for information on TinyProxy for the iPhone is here:

    http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/help/

Now, I am on a MacBook Pro, so I tried setting a system wide proxy HTTP but nothing loaded in Safari.

Howerver, System Update connected fine and told me there were no updates. iTunes failed on updating podcasts.

I went into Firefox and put the proxy in there. Now, I get spotty connections.

I can get to these sites fine:
    http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
    http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/help/
    http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/

What is weird is that I cannot get to others sites such as digg.com and gmail.com.

I am currently on my laptop using the iPhone for internet to write this post.
I am hoping the author puts up an FAQ/Wiki/Forum for posting errors and solutions.

Anyone else have similar experiences or now how to get this working 100% ??

    Thanks.

Note: If you have your iPhone set to auto-lock, once it auto-locks you will most likely loose your internet connection tethering to your laptop. Set the auto-lock to 'Never' for the time you are tethering.
