Understanding Cydia life without wifi
Ok so we have a small group going off iphone crippled owners (no wifi)
Am figuring out a way to keep up todate on all the latest apps.
So Cydia donloads a master file from each repo which contains all the latest programs where is this file on the repo. Where is it put on the iphone for cydia to read.
Since I dont know the answer to the above question what we do is
go directly to
Index of /dists/tangelo/main/binary-iphoneos-arm/debs
Now you will find each file name has two names.
The version info is pretty straight forward. You just grab the highest number. You then use itunnel to dump this file into your auto install directory and the next time you reboot your phone or run cydia it will get installed.
The doubt about 2 names
http://apt.saurik.com/dists/tangelo/...honeos-arm.deb
and
http://apt.saurik.com/dists/tangelo/...darwin-arm.deb
So one is iphoneos-arm.deb and the other is darwin-arm.deb
Why the two file names ?
I should be using the iphoneos file right ?
What is confusing is that the iphoneos-arm version will stop very early and then there will be like 10 newer versions of the darwin-arm file
Now if only we could figure out a way to automate this complete job i.e. download and update thru the PCs internet (Which is fast) dump on the phone thru USB and then let cydia take over the rest.

I think darwin is the system on Macs, so you should use the iphoneos versions.
An alternative to all this is to get OpenSSH on the phone and connect it to your PC's internet connection without using wifi: alk blog: SSH to get your iphone online via USB cable
EDIT: You can spare the effort of downloading the Packages files or trying to understand the contents of packages by their names. There is a website that mimics Cydia: http://modmyi.com/cydia

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.
Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
* on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
* on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

I think it has bootneuter and the latest Cydia. The BSD systems that are installed when putting Cydia on with pwnage are actually a lot of packages (the full list is:
adv-cmds apt base bash
berkeleydb bigboss bzip2
coreutils cydia-sources cydia
darwintools diffutils dpkg
findutils gettext gnupg
grep gzip inetutils
ispazio.net less libgcc
libutil modmyifone nano
ncurses network-cmds pcre
readline saurik sed
shell-cmds ste system-cmds
tar unzip yellowsn0w.com
zodttd)
