[Tethering] How to in 2.1 without iPhoneModem
Has anyone made a good writeup on how to tether in 2.1? I do not want to use iPhoneModem because it requires Leopard (I have Tiger). My current method uses TinyProxy, but I do not know if that app is good in 2.1.
Thanks in advance.

Use Netshare that has been rejected from appstore

I found three links to download it on pr0x? Was there more than one version, or would they all be alike? Does it work in 2.1 or just 2.0?
Also, I am still curious if there is a TinyProxy or Socks I can use with 2.1 to avoid having to use a cracked app from a pirate board?
Thanks in advance.

A thing called PDAnet just popped out in Cydia. It sounds like what you need. I haven't tested it, I am happy with iPhonemodem

Try the procedure via the USB cable using SSH. It works very well for me: much faster than TinyProxy/Socks. (And you can also do this via the Wifi connection; just leave out the iTunnel part). See http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48459

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.
Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
* on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
* on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

PDAnet is better than NetShare
and does not use socks proxy
Touch Dial is an easy-to-use application for one touch dial / sms icon on the home screen for iPhone.
This app can read the accelerometer and do phone dial or SMS dial for the same number based on the your setting for Portrait or Landscape Mode of iPhone.

PdaNet!
Agreed, PdaNet rocks!
You get "Full Internet"
ie. mail applications also work
Setup is really easy. I even made an applescript to create the ad-hoc network automatically. One click to connect!

Another use for PDANet (at least for me...)
Posted this elsewhere but thought someone here might find it useful in some way...
Just wanted to share an interesting use of PDANet that I stumbled across...maybe someone out there can improve upon this or just find a use for it as I have.
I haven't sold my 1st gen iphone and have been getting annoyed at having to disrupt pandora or whatever else I might be using my 3g for whenever anyone calls. So, I've been wondering how to tether my 1st gen to my 3g somehow so that I can put it to practical use again in my wi-fi lacking home. Turns out PDAnet lets me do exactly that:
I just set up an ad-hoc network between my 3g and laptop, then connect to it using my 1st gen iphone and voila! pseudo wi-fi on my 1st gen that gets very reliable 3g speeds. The tether between my 1st gen and 3g persists even if I disable my laptop radio or shut it off completely. The only problem with this is that I need the laptop to establish the adhoc network...if I could cut the laptop out of the picture this would be really genuinely useful for me.
Any ideas?
