Request: App to Change DNS Server for Edge

I'd like to change my DNS server to OpenDNS in the hope of speeding up my Edge connection. From what I read on another forum, this can be accomplished by:

"deleting the symlink /etc/resolv.conf (it is symlinked to /var/run/resolv.conf) and then either using vi to create a new resolv.conf on the iPhone or scp a resolv.conf to the iPhone with the following values...

domain lan
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220"

However, I'm not a Unix guy and am unsure what this all means. Would it be possible for someone to create a an app to accomplish this via a GUI?

nobody knew the answer in 2007 and in 2009 Im still looking for the same answer
Knowledge about the internal workings of the phones wifi and tcpip stack is woefully bad.

There's not much to "know", really... You could simply try the prescription quoted. Use a text editor to create a very simple file named resolv.conf with the contents that were quoted. Put it on you phone in /etc (first delete the thing by that name that is already there).

The hardest thing is to make sure you have the right text encoding, which is why it's wise to do this in a terminal on your iPhone, using one of the built-in editors (vi or nano).

Maybe a bit of UNIX knowledge is way more valuable than knowing about TCP/IP stack

You can create this file on Notepad and transfer it to the iPhone, either using OpenSSH or DiskAid (assuming your phone is already jailbroked). As OP states, deleting the /etc/resolv.conf symlink is pretty much this: remove the "file" /etc/resolv.conf. You can remove this file again using DiskAid or OpenSSH -- Cyberduck for Mac, WinSCP for Windows, any other sftp client you want to use, or the plain "rm -f /etc/resolv.conf" command line.
