At the moment i use my computer to send texts to my friends, I use a
program which allows me to do this for free. The only draw back of this is that i need to be at my computer and that the conversation in sms.app aren't used which is a very nice feature.

The service i use is a daughter company from Betamax, a company which owns about 50 Voip service companies. These include voipcheap and voipbuster. All of the websites give you the option of sending sms throught their software, their website or through a specially formatted url which is as follows.

https://myaccount.<PROVIDERURL>/clx/sendsms.php?username=xxxxxxxxxx&password=xxxxxxxxx x&from=xxxxxxxxxx&to=xxxxxxxxxx&text=xxxxxxxxxx

Where <PROVIDERURL> is say voipcheap.co.uk or voipbuster.com

It then loads a web page which gives you a result of whether the message was successfully sent or not and if not why (wrong number, no credit, service down)

Ide like someone to write a native app which will let you send a message from the iphone. Then the message sent should then be saved in the sms database as a normal sms so it shows up when you look at a your sms.app conversations.
It would be great if it was also possible to select the receiver from the contacts list . It would also be great if it could be intigrated into an application like weTool where the app would check if the iphone is connected to wifi and would send through that url if it is, and through gsm if it is not. You could then send the messages as you would normally except they are free.

Im sure quite a few people would be willing to donate for this app as there are many people who use the betamax services.
