I think that open system on a mobile is a good thing, but the mobile OSX user interface is one hundred times better than any windows/linux (Android, ubuntu, ...) mobile at this moment. Maybe in the future...

i kinda agree about the os being the core of the iphone, nonetheless, the awesome screen of the iphone is really what makes it all possible. Apps that try to mimic some of the iphines fuctions like scrolling on an htc touch absolutely suck cause the touchscreen lags as gell! Id like to see what an "open" linux like os would look like on an iphone.... I doubt a brpwser better than safari will come around tho...

Since your on this forum i expect you have your iphone jailbroken and have added many community developed applications and customised the theme to suit your tastes. This goes against apples vision for the phone and your actions lean towards embracing a community / open source way of doing things.
So linux on the phone wouldn't be rubbish, it'd be a nice alternative for people to develop freely on a good platform. Also if apache, firefox and php are indications of how well community developed software can be, then i look forward to some iLinux.
This vista theme talk makes me think your more an apple fan boy than anything else. Vista theme is quite attractive, why are you so surprised people find this attractive compared to the boring default. Would you also not understand why someone would want their iphone to look like a sketch pad?
Apple - iPhone
Windows - Desktop
Linux - Laptop
Not partisan is the future.

Actually, this is a very good idea. If Apple does want to give us the flash plug in then we can switch to Linux with a full blown 2.0 browser that supports adobe flash and java. On top of that Ubuntu Mobile support many media extensions. I will give it a closer look, but from looking at the website and the information they have on there Ubuntu Mobile (moblin) is supported by Intel and it has been tested on many different UMPCs with Intel processors. I'm not sure if this will work on the iphone so easily with no drivers. It would be interesting to play with if I had Ipod Touch. It would be even nicer if it did work in dual boot.
