[Req] Greek and Latin Roots
Although I do not have enough coding experience to write a program myself, I would love to see someone whip up an application for Greek and Latin roots, etc.
I was thinking that it could have the 5 black icons such as Installer, iTunes store, etc. have.
On the first, something like All and it would be alphabetized.
The second would be something like top 25 or top 50 viewed and show your the last roots you view.
The third would be Search. It would allow you to type in the root in a top search bar and below that would be an area that shows like 8-10 that become more specific as your search. For instance when you start typing "g" it would show graph and gram and geo. Then if you typed an "r" making "gr" it would narrow it down to graph and gram. I think that is pretty clear...
The fourth would be Add. Your could type in the name of root, meaning, and examples (of words that have the root). That way if someone had one that wasn't in the database it would add it.
The fifth I haven't quite decided what it could be. Whoever developes this (if someone does) they could perhaps put an About or Credit type thing. Their they could link to the App Store perhaps showing more apps created by that developer (i think Apple will allow this sort of implementation)
This app would be useful to a LOT of students such as myself and I would love to see it be developed. If anyone has any suggestions or questions please reply!
Thanks,
- Revlet

Or you could just google the word in question.

Exactly what I was thinking. IMO these reference type of apps are better as web apps. Maybe one already exists?

What if...
The reason why I would like this as a native application is not just for ease of use.
I live up in the Sierra Nevadas and there isn't very good reception there. Also, I am a actual at&t user and their EDGE is sloooooow.
I really don't think it would be that hard to write this application as it would use the iPhone database and would not need to communicate with the internet.

This sounds more like a weDict dictionary. With this type of thing, it's not the coding but rather the raw data that is the limiting factor. There is a book I have called "Dictionary of Word Roots and Combining Forms"... however, I don't know of this material in a public domain form.
If there were an app specific for this functionality, the main use I foresee would be a novelty pedantic word creation utility. Or at least it might have some utility in preventing the coining of Latin Greek hybrids.
