[Req] Encryption Program for iPhone

I've been pondering for a while the logistics about having a programme similar enough to truecrypt for the iphone, and I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions or ideas to add to the discussion. It would be kinda nice to know that you could secure your data on your phone because once someone has physical access to your phone, your data is at their mercy. Even the PIN request on the phone doesn't block use like it used to on other phones (I was a nokia user before I got my iphone, I don't know about other phones) where the PIN request was part of the boot sequence. If you didn't type in the correct PIN then it would bar access to the phone, whereas the iphone just doesn't allow you to make calls but it still does everything else.

Suggestions or comments?

Seconded. I'm getting increasingly uncomfortable with all the data that are in my Mail application.

Someone would have to port an existing encryption tool to the mobile OS X. TrueCrypt is an open source project (on SourceForge) which already has a Unix variety; maybe someone involved in it would be willing to help.

I was sorta worried when stories came out that even when iphones were "wiped" that it was still possible to recover sensitive data from them (emails, call logs, sms messages and the like). It would be very reassuring if someone could create an app that sorta went along the lines of a passcode for slide to unlock, where if you left your phone idle for 3 or 4 minutes it would ask you to decrypt again.
Just an idea, I'm really more interested in hearing what other people have to say on the topic, especially with the new 3g phone rumoured to come out and people selling off their 1st gen phones, data retention on the devices could pose a threat.

If you are worried about the recovery of "wiped" data then.. you can use "Wipe.app" by Nerve gas.. :)
