[HowTo] Download and store mp3,pdf,etc on your iPhone from Safari

Hi,

New version 2.28 of MNPlight is out, with some cool new features to test. One of the most interesting is a simple way to download Safari native files (mp3,mp4,pdf,etc...) on your iPhone. Here is the method, if you want to try:

1/ Install MNPlight 2.28 (rep: http://iphone.lefessant.net/iphone )
2/ Download the file you want to store in Safari. It might start Quicktime if it is an audio/video file, in this case, just use the "Done" button to come back to Safari.
3/ Start MNPlight or open a new tab in Safari with MNPlight interface
4/ Click on MNPlight Safari button
5/ In the page, you should find a list of all Safari tabs. Choose the one corresponding to the file you want to download, and use the "Download" button
6/ Fill the name under which you want to save the file, and the download should start
7/ Use the "Download Manager" in MNPlight to follow the downloads progress.

That's it... Should be simple enough this time ! Enjoy, and let me know if you have troubles...

Can you designate what directory certain filetypes can be downloaded into? It would be great if say I wanted to download a PDF file, I could set the path for PDF files to correspond with PDF Viewer's media folder.

No, since MNPlight asks for the final filename before the download, it doesn't know yet the type of the file. Doing the contrary would not be better, as you would have to wait for the end of the download to name it. The best solution, implemented in the next version, is to remember the directories where the previous downloads were saved, and use a pulldown button to choose the directory.

So with this I can download a file from the internet (i.e. a zip file from a sendspace link) to my iPhone, and then use it to upload that file to my computer? Is there a way to then remove the file from my iPhone or does it move it from the iPhone to the computer rather than copying it?

hey treb, i been havin troubles ever since version 2.27 i havent been able to connect when i launch it says cannot connect to server. Im on 1.1.3 ziphone tmobile. Thanks.

Oh and 2.28 doesnt work neither for me

Can you post a bug report on MNPlight bug tracker, WITH in attachment the mnplight.log file that is in /var/mobile/Library/MNPlight/ ? I'm also using a 1.1.3 iphone, by the way... maybe you did some modifications of your original 1.1.3 system ?

2/ Once the file is on your iPhone, use the "Files" icon in MNPlight to browse to the files you downloaded. You can then send them by e-mail (attachment), and delete them. You can do that directly from your computer using MNPlight remote interface on a wifi connection to download them from a normal browser.

Hey Treb, i posted a bug report with the mnplight.log file attached. i restored my phone and reflashed baseband so I dont think i've made any changes mnplight was one of the first things i downloaded. I dont know if your gonna respond via email or on that site but here is my email jreid0834@yahoo.com, just real anxious to get mnplight back working. Thanks

@jreid: thanks for your help, I see what happened. It will be fixed in next version... on MNPlight side. I don't know why, but it says your call database (/var/mobile/Library/CallHistory/call_history.db) is corrupted. In the meantime, you can create a file /var/mobile/Library/MNPlight/mnplight.ini just containing the lines:

save_sms = false
save_calls = false

and it should start this time...

Hi Treb, is there a newbie guide for this app? I tried it last night and I lost all my songs... Had to download them back using iTunes. Thanks!

Also, is this supported on 1.1.4? I get some message about the database not being supported
