Fortunately, this turns out to not be a big deal. If I want to use something else, I just fo a quick swipe to activate SBSettings and toggle Wiki2Touch off. Simple and clean.

Meh. I may take the time to investigate this further, however for me, just letting WinSCP do its thing overnight is perfectly fine. I have come the accept that when dealing with such things as Wikipedia dump downloading, processing, and transfers, patience is a virtue. I simply don't worry as EVENTUALLY, it'll end up on my device!

And that's why Wikipanion is such an excellent compliment to Wiki2Touch because you get the very best of both worlds for both online and offline reading. As a compromise, I spoke with the Wikipanion developer providing an "Update all" button to update every article that I have saved offline. (I have about 100 or so.) He said that Wikipedia gets kinda testy when it comes to applications that do frequent mass-updates. They would rather you do single queries or download the dump in its entirety. I can see his point, so I didn't push it.

FYI, another never-talked-about application is Tini Wiki. It has a more up-to-date dump than Encyclopedia, and its interface is much more usable. It also will do online searching as well. But now that I have Wiki2Touch, all the others are now gone from my iPod Touch.

Hey guys, I have another question: Anyone have any easy hints about tweaking the font sizes? I'm guessing it's it's probably controlled through one of the stylesheets in /var/mobile/wikiservd/webcontent/stylesheets, but no matter what I change, I can't seem to get the font size to change. I'd like to specifically increase the font size of the main text content a bit as well as the Table of Contents.

Suggestions?

besides iPhone Folders and iPhone Explorer, there's another good USB file manager called iFunBox (www.i-funbox.com). This one even lets you copy music from your iDevice back to your computer with recognizable filenames intact.

jbarr, try iFunBox on Windows 7 64-bit. If it doesn't work in normal mode, right-click it and choose Properties>Compatibility>Run in Vista 64-bit mode.

Just wondering if anyone ever tried to port his own wiki using Wiki2touch. The dumping/indexing part is thesame, but how do you pack the images?
Woud appreciate ideas and suggestions.

first of all i would like to thank everyone here specially sir djpav for the wonderful tutorial. I got it to work on my previous device. but unfortunately my unit was replaced last week of May due to internal speaker problem.
It was preloaded with 3.1.2 FW. I manage to install my wiki2touch as well. And is working fine with 3.1.2. I also manage to get my shsh blobs back up for 3.1.3 only.
Then one time I need to restore cause my youtube app dont work. To my surprise wiki2touch doesnt load anymore on 3.1.3. It doesnt even show the wiki2touch search logo :spinme . I wish someone could make a workaround for the 3rd gen MC model ipods with fw 3.1.3. I really really miss my wikipedia.. :(:(

@Jerico: I am surprised to hear that you cannot get Wiki2touch to work on 3.1.3 . 3.1.3 was a minor bug fix update - and in actuality not even that - it was more of an update from Apple to block the jailbreak/unlock exploits in 3.1.2. Therefore it should not have any effect on Wiki2touch, and indeed, user "pol3m" in the 3rd page of this thread reports that he did get it to work on 3.1.3 (Direct link to his comment http://www.hackint0sh.org/f126/101139-3.htm#post492358).

If you have properly installed Wiki2touch but nothing shows when you go to Safari, this usually means that (i) either the server is off in SBSettings, or that (ii) you simply need to restart the device (but do so by first turning it off using the power button at the top and then restart).

FYI: I've just updated my iPod Touch 2nd generation (non-MC model) (did a "restore" via iTunes 9.2) to iOS 4.0, jailbroke it, and had Wiki2Touch working just as before.

Since this is called a "definitive installation guide", you should include a link to this website (Download files for your Wiki2Touch application), which shows how to make math equations appear correctly in wiki2touch, as shown here:

Near the bottom of that website is a download linkthat includes the tools and the instructions to do so.

Alternatively, we can wait for zhangchnxp to make a stable wiki2touch server that does the same thing using JSMath (there's an experimental version available right now at Downloads - wiki2touch-standalone-ui).

FYI, I recently upgraded my 16GB 2nd Gen (MB series) to iOS v4. The next day, I jailbroke it without issue. I then followed the instructions for installing everything, and it seemed to work just fine on a small test articles.bin file. But for some reason, the SBSettings toggle wasn't working, then at some point, the server just wouldn't start (or at least respond to page hits.) I had installed Wiki2Touch Server (v1.1.20091028) through Cydia.

So, uninstalled everything Wiki2Touch related, rebooted, and then I went to Google Code and downloaded "Wiki2Touch Server (v1.1.20091028)" directly from there, and installed it. Someone here said to rename the .deb package to wikisrvd.deb prior to install. I did that, and everything installed just fine, and again, Wiki2Touch works like a charm with the test articles.bin file. But now, Cydia keeps bugging me saying that there's an update.

Anyone know how to get Cydia to ignore that update? Or can I re-install without renaming?

I installed Wiki2Touch via Cydia and it works fine. Try uninstalling wiki2touch and reinstall via Cydia and don't forget to reboot after installing. The version from the website and the one in Cydia are the same, except the number is slightly changed (that's why there's a nag for update).
