I came across PocketTouch today. It was made for the iPod touch, but it works well on the iPhone. Once you start playing a song, you can then start up PocketTouch, and PocketTouch will allow you turn the volume up and down by swiping up and down, move to the next and previous song by swiping horizontally, and pause and play by tapping the screen. There is also a cool "Shaker" feature that allows you to play a random song by shaking the iPhone. Shake again and play another random song.
