Nintendo DS Emulator?
I think a DS emulator would be appropriate considering the iPhone has a touch screen and more than enough processing power to run games. This was a problem for the PSP since it lacks a touchscreen.
Do you think it's possible?
The phone has Wifi, so theres a possible way to play online. Saves can be dumped and retrieved via SFTP over SSH, and the screen can be split in half as it would normally on the DS, and maybe some gestures or some buttons on the bottom could act as controls. A stylus wouldn't be needed, for obvious reasons.
I think this would be good to play simple/less complex games such as pokemon or mario.

That would be very very difficult...it's hard enough getting emulation to work properly on PC's let alone the iPhone.
The screen, when split into two would be much smaller than the DS not to mention adding buttons on them would decrease the size available. And I don't even think the iPhone has the kind of graphical muscle to power DS games.

A general rule for emulation is that the system that is emulating has to be aproximately 10 times stronger than the system that is being emulated.

Some people said that the psp would never emulate any console.
Some people said that the psp would never emulate n64, gba, DS and now it can emulate them.
I know that we are not talking about the psp but hey the iphone has a 700MHZ processor with 3d support and 128mb of ram (PSP: AMR 333MHZ(overclocked) 32mb of ram (fat one) 64mb of ram(slim)), this is fair enough to emulate a decent system.
Also the iphone has an unix OS.
In informatic and hacking avoid the: "Impossible". Because there will be different ways to do something always.

Then again, the PSP isn't a phone in the background as well..
There would be need to disable a lot of the services to free up memory and cpu time if this were to become possible in any way. If my NES emulator bogs down on Final Fantasy 1. Then I think we have a major challenge ahead of us.

Haha, It makes me so happy to hear that other people use their NES emulators to play final fantasy I (aka the best game of all time!). That's a good point about it though, version 1.6.2 of the NES.app still can't really play FF1, so it's hard to imagine it working well for far more complicated games any time in the near future.

@MexicanSnake:
And I feel the need to beat your whiny ass back into reality.
Anything any emulate pretty much anything else. That's a given. What's the real problem is how long it takes relative to the original. Nikola's rule of a 10 to 1 power difference sounds reasonable to me although I've never actually tried calculating it out.
If I felt like it, I could make the PSP run Windows Vista. How cool, huh? Not if you find out your battery will die long before Windows finishes booting.
Wanna check out an old 25 Mhz Macintosh try to boot OSX 10.3?
http://mactalk.com.au/articles/68kpanther/
It really did start booting OSX. But he calculates it'll take a 7 days to finish booting.
A quick google search says a guy made a DS emulator for fun to see how it would run and it goes 1-5 frames per second. Still interested? And combo that with a post in the same article telling another guy the N64 emulator on PSP is unplayable.
Oh, and the iPhone is 400 mhz according to a guy who actually did the ioreg query.
Given that 3D support is meaningless here, and with the overhead of running an OS, and knowing that there's little likelyhood of a fastpath to the framebuffer on the iPhone OS, a DS emulator is possible on the iPhone...... at maybe 1-3 frames per second. It'd make you quite the high scorer on Ouendan, wouldn't it? If only you had the patience to sit through one song for 30 minutes.

yeah, I'd and just about everyone else with any experience on the PSP scene would say that a playable DS is a definite no, but what about those games they have at the bars that are touch screen, you know, they have like 100 different games on them and most of them are pretty good, next time I'm at the apple bees I'll collaborate a list, but does anyone know what I'm talking about? I hope so
