With the help of KeyboardArtworkMGR-0.3.jar for the graphics and some patience to find occurence of letters in UIKit, I have been able to build a swiss french keyboard. At least the most used accented characters (éèêà) and changed the keyboard to QWERTZ. Just replace UIKit and artwork in /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework. Reboot the iphone and it should be ok. Hope it will be useful to other swiss french users.

Another problem is that Russian keyboard completely different from latin, so, to work conveniently, there should be a layout switcher. May be, it's possible to write tiny applications to run it right on iPhone and switch keyboard layout (swap files)?

Please, give an advise...

First thank you very much for your "SwissFrench" keyboard, this is a good improvment for us.

I just installed it and try. There is a bug. when you type twice a letter (éèêà) the application crash (tried in Notes and SMS).

This is not important, the french speaking language don't require to type the same letter twice . Just for information.

Strange. I don't have this problem. Are you using firmware 1.0.2? UIKit is from 1.0.2. I can type as many accented chars I want, it works fine. Tried in SMS and Notes too.

@gigi88: It's not a french keyboard. It's a swiss french keyboard. It's much closer to german keyboard than french.

@alxtribal: In Photoshop, you have to try. All chars doesn't use the same font size. Apple tries to keep them readable (for example, < sign is 66 when @ is 34). When the font is fine, I have dropped a small white shadow from the top. It's not exactly like built in chars, but you don't notice it on the iPhone.
